Scripting soundtracks? And plots?!

I know it's early days yet (still almost a whole month to go!) but I was curious to find out if anyone else was already planning their scripting soundtrack - that is to say, the music you'll be listening to when writing in order to "get into the mood" for your chosen setting?

...This is, of course, assuming that we have plots bubbling away already! So therein lies the next question: does anyone have their plots lined up yet?

So far I've been setting up a playlist for my sci-fi script which seems to be involving copious amounts of The Killers, Fair to Midland, My Chemical Romance and Ayumi Hamasaki. (Suggestions for good sci-fi sounding music would be appreciated, whilst I'm at it...)

RE: Scripting soundtracks? And plots?!

I've started planning!! =D
I'm even setting up a little freewebs website to keep track of everything from plot to ideal cast. (www.freewebs.com/kitty--taylor if anybody wants to have a nosey)

Plot: (It's still tentative, but should give me room for a bit of action/adventure, a love story, and a few good dares too!)

...What if, in the year 2120 the government made sexual relations under the age of 21 illegal? Forbidden, punishable, dangerous? Whatever you want to call it, you know you'd be in trouble if you broke those rules. The general public have been waiting for this breakthrough for years! No teenage pregnancies, right? No broken rules, no helpess, clueless parents? Right?

Wrong.

What if the government also made abortion illegal under the same age? What then?

The year is 2135, and both pregnancy and abortion are illegal for all those under the age of 21. There is only one punishment: Adoption. Don't be fooled, Adoption these days isn't what it once was. It has morphed, adapted, evolved over the years. These days, if your child is going to be Adopted then there is only one thing to do. Actually, there are two:

1) Panic.

2) Run. Fast. Now.

Luce Adlam is nineteen years old and has just given birth. Not a normal teenager by any standards, when Luce wakes to find her daughter missing, she will do what few young people have ever dared dream.

"No child should have to atone for the mistakes their parents made. --If that's true, then why should mine? Why should my daughter have to atone for the damage that her father caused?"

That child is hers, and she'll be damned if anybody is going to get in her way on the quest to get her back, least of some eccentic-looking twenty-something lad who has more than a little problem with keeping his mouth shut.

Heno won't come between Luce and her daughter. He wouldn't dare. But will she come between him and his?

As for the soundtrack... At the moment I have a playlist with basically all of the songs I like at the moment. There are 71 one of them, so I don't think I'll list them all, but amongst them are songs by Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Nightwish, Avril Lavigne and some from the musical Rent. xD What fun. I'm thinking the songs which best describe the script are "It Feels Like I'm In Love" by Kelly Marie, and "I'll Carry You" by Clay Aiken. :B

RE: Scripting soundtracks? And plots?!

Ooh that sounds interesting. I'm not organised enough to have decided what I'd like to write yet. I've got three ideas:
Airplane Disaster Movie
Some kind of RomCom
Dystopian Sci-fi Future

I suppose I could have an Airplane Disaster Rom Com set in a dystopia sci-fi future...

Oh my, I'm hugely jealous. o___o I haven't even begun to plot properly yet - I've only got characters and very little story. :( Your planning is pretty phenomenal. :) I like the website!

I'd definitely pay to watch that. :D There's not enough cross-genre in sci fi.

RE: Scripting soundtracks? And plots?!

Haha, it's not really. Not compared to some people, but, well, when you get these epiphanies, you just know that you were meant to be a writer xD

RE: Scripting soundtracks? And plots?!

I genuinely have no idea! I didn't even know SF was in April this year instead of June (although I did read it in a NaNo email but there was no official date on the SF website so I forgot about it) until I got the email from raeble.

So now I'll have to think of something. There is a story I'm wanting to get out, but I see that more as a novel than as a film at the moment. To be fair, I didn't know what I was going to write about until just a few days before NaNo and that worked out well. And I think it's easier to write a screenplay than a book... so it should work. I hope.

I can give it a go, and if I can finish it in under 26 days then good. If I can't, then... well... at least I've tried instead of just saying "I'll pass on this one". Because I like SF and would love to participate again.

Possibly thinking of writing a rather blasphemous story about various religious figures coming back to life in present day and going "wtf?!" over what people have done with what they said all those years ago. It wouldn't have a chance in hell of ever being made into a film, but hey... It'd be fun. Well, it's supposed to be fun anyway, as it's supposed to be a comedy. ;)

That sounds like fun.

I'm waiting on a book from Amazon entitled "How to Write a Movie in 21 days".

RE: Scripting soundtracks? And plots?!

Hi - had a query actually.

I'm getting the impression that not only are plays acceptable this year, but they also seem to be accepting adaptations. Am i right?

I've been wanting, for almost 10 years, to write an updated tv drama version of shakespeare's merry wives of windsor, because it would SO lend itself to it.

Am I allowed to do this this year?

RE: Scripting soundtracks? And plots?!

Yep, they do indeed appear to be accepting adaptations; there's a forum for it buried in amongst the others in the Script Discussion section.

Someone asked if they could even adapt a video game, with the official answer as a 'yes' so I can't imagine that you would be disallowed from adapting Shakespeare.

It sounds like it could be good fun too. :)
