What inspires you? |
Graphic novels are very popular now-a-days.
I'm just curious to what fuels a person to pursue creating one and what inspires they're ideas.
Is it music? What graphic novels you've read? Daydreams?
Personally, everything is inspiration to me.
And there is no opportunity I let go by when it comes to something art-related.
I'm inspired by music, its message, the flow of notes. Daily experiences or random things that happen withing my tight ring of a trio.
Things I see, things I watch, things I read.
But is there one specific thing that gave you that spark of excitement that just made you leap and soar into comics or comic scripting?
A show? A book? A friend?
With curiosity,
Nana

RE: What inspires you? |
I guess I've been inspired by my ferrets. I imagine them with machine guns and riding in futuristic tanks (out to take over the world of Socks) and start playing around with it. :P
This is the first time I've ever attempted a graphic novel, but what inspired me was the fact I've been wanting to do a semi-futuristic anthrofiction story for a long time, but it never quite works for me in novel format. So I figured, what the heck, I'll try it as a visual story and see what happens.
Not that I can actually, you know, draw :P but being unable to do something has never stopped me before in the writing field...
I'm inspired a lot by animated TV shows and movies (Beast Wars: Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc) as well. Books and music are also huge inspiration to me--I can read something and wonder what it would be like if you just changed this, that, and this ;) and then I have new ideas to play with...
Eh. Don't know if that answered your question, Nana. I'm pretty spaced out and random at the moment.

RE: What inspires you? |
That's a pretty cool inspiration source.
And a really awesome idea x3 That'd appeal to kids and people of all sorts of ages, even adults if some subtle double meanings are included, like a secret plot only understandable to those of a more "sophisiticated" age (i.e.: Fairly odd Parents has their own double meanings.)
I like the way you think, if it doesn't work out one way, try another route.
Its really admirable that you're willing to follow your story through what ever path it takes you just to find what works for it. :D
And I'd love to see it visually, from what little chunks you've included, it sounds great.
And its not if you answered my question, its really if you answered it enough for you. :]]
I just love hearing how people find themselves on the path they are now and how they got there.

I'm inspired by any story I read/watch/hear. Even if it's just "Well I would have done the ending this way" if it gets me thinking creatively that's a form of inspiration.
I want to do GN because I just think the comics medium is so intriguing. The combination of pictures and text and the episodic nature is great. Allows for so much creativity as a medium.

Thanks, Nana. :)
If I get anything that turns out half-decent, I may post it on a blog. ;) Assuming that by May I get my scanner working. :P

RE: What inspires you? |
I have a job as a janitor (sweeper xP) at my old elementary school, and since the work requires very little thinking, I usually come up with ideas there. Its not really an inspiration . .. more like a good environment for me to be inspired. For inspiration itself, I usually think back to books, stories or mangas I have read, or roleplays that I have participated in between my friends and me. There are a ton of plot twists in those, and they rock when the story I'm making up is becoming really boring . . .

RE: What inspires you? |
Inspiration? Anything I read or watch. Stuff I encounter in the real world. People I know, want to know, don't want to know, or wish I didn't know. But above all, knowing that I'm finally about to get my vision, pent up inside me for almost 20 years, out into the world at last. Not just Spanner itself, but the NaNoWriMo "Dictel trilogy" that is its prose prequel.

I too am inspired by everything. My graphic novel was inspired by street names.

Inspiration comes from everywhere, and usually hits in the shower. I really need to get one of those waterproof voice recorders to keep in there, lol.
Anything that sparks a tangent in my mind, really. Music is good for ideas for paintings with me, for some reason, but I think that just goes back to wanting to have a visual interpretation of an idea. More often, though, it's a turn of phrase, a random word association, that sort of thing that makes me tilt my head and think "hmmmm, what would that be like?"

RE: What inspires you? |
My inspiration? A combination of being absolutely addicted to comic books (X-Men!) and just...I don't know, really loving the whole superhero thing. I can't even explain where it comes from, but I adore superhero teams, in all shapes and sizes, and I have tons, and tons of fun imagining what life would be like if you were a part of one, and all that stuff...You wouldn't believe the amount of time I've wasted wishing I had mutant powers =P
The specific inspiration for this years potential ScriptFrenzy is a text-based RP I've been in for three and half years. It's where I get all my good ideas.

RE: What inspires you? |
Meh, everything inspires me. I come up with crap out of nowhere. ^_^ But specifically, other stories tend to inspire me the most (especially manga nowadays: my graphic novel project for Script Frenzy sprouted from thinking of magical girls and watching a lot of Danny Phantom).
