Is this a drama or something else?

My story involves a student who is half-white, half-Native American, who is writing her first novel. She is helped by one of her professors. In doing so, they form a friendship which helps the student heal from a disorder and the professor find inspiration again.

I can't tell if it's a dramatic story or if it belongs in another category.

RE: Is this a drama or something else?

It sounds like a drama.

In fact, it sounds very much like another drama, "Good Will Hunting"

Hi,
for me, it does not sound very dramatic.
As for me, drama deals with existential questions.
What is at stake, if that student does not write her novel?

RE: Is this a drama or something else?

It doesn't have to be life threatening to be drama I think.
It may not be very dramatic if the stakes are low, but it could still be a drama. Though... a drama that's not dramatic would be boring. I guess that would just make bad drama. And bad drama must still be drama. Unless it gets to the point of absurdity. Then it's like... unintentional satire. Sorry, I should be in bed, I'm babbling.

And the stakes sound high enough to create interest to me.

That said, it's probably drama. But there's probably a more fitting, minor catagory for it that I can't think of.

I can't figure out where mine fits yet either. I get the feeling it may turn to absurdism soon. In a Beckett sense, not absurdly bad. Then again. I think I'll get there too. Ha. Oh well.
