TV: Teaser length?

Seriously, how long/short should it be? I thought the TV script resource thingy said, but it didn't.

Seriously, approximate page length, minute length, words of dialogue....it'd be helpful.

(if this is in the wrong place, sorry)

RE: TV: Teaser length?

Oooh, 1-3 pages maybe? I recall having read that. I've also seen 2-4 pages mentioned as a guideline. I'm completely new to this though, so I really have no idea. :)

Really, it varies. Just keep it short and succinct. I'm writing a teaser too, and I doubt it'll stretch more than a page.

Oh hey, it's 12:00 here now! Time to go!

RE: TV: Teaser length?

Teasers vary depending on the show -- some don't even have teasers, they just open with an Act One (e.g. BONES) Are you writing an original pilot script or a spec for an existing show? if the latter, obviously you can check the actual scripts for that show (or time it)

Otherwise, I'd say 1-2 minutes for a sit-com/half hour show (it's only got 22 minutes total) and 3-5 minutes for a one-hour.

Check the archives in Jane Espenson's TV writing blog, it may have been discussed there. http://www.janeespenson.com/index.php
