J-Rock And J-Pop

Since I'm writting a manga, I thought that I should get a few good Japanese songs for inspiration. However, all of the songs that I have found so far....Don't exactly work.

The plot over all is that a group of teens are sent into an anime style world that they must save. However, unlike a lot of magical girl series, I hope to make this one a little darker and more dramatic. There is a little romance although that isn't the main theme. That is friendship. Very cliche for the magical girl genra but it was the only one that worked...Let's not even go into that.

So...I'm looking for a Japanese rock or pop song that perferibably deals with friendship or the troubles of the world and all of that good stuff.

Even if you don't know anything like that but have some good Japanese songs, just put them in here but explain what they are. For example:
Oreskaband -Upbeat all girl's ska band

The last time I looked around SoundClick -- admittedly it's been a while -- they had a fairly healthy J-Pop genre. Sorry I don't have anything specific to recommend.

Rain by Gackt
Vanilla by Gackt
Redemption by Gackt
pretty much any song by Gackt

L'Arc-En-Ciel and Nightmare are good bands as well.

I also recommend Utada Hikaru (she sung the themes to KH and KH2)^^

Ooh yes, Gackt is good.
I'm currently partial to the song Cyclone, an opening/ending/something-or-other from RomeoxJuliet.

RE: J-Rock And J-Pop

the brilliant green is, well, brilliant, and they do have some songs that could potentially fit what you're doing. They're rock, with a female singer (Tomoko Kawase)... Their influences are all over the map, so they're difficult to describe, beyond that. A lot of their songs are in English, though between Tomoko's accent, and the odd rhythm of certain lines in some songs it's sometimes hard to tell. The lyrics often include some charmingly odd images.

Specific great songs touching on the topics you mention (though not neccessarily the aspects you mean) -
Funny Girlfriend!!
Rainy Days Never Stays
I Never Dreamed
Good Bye and Good Luck (I'm particularly fond of the version on the Ash Like Snow single.)

Tomoko's solo projects - Tommy february6 and Tommy heavenly6 (paryicularly heavenly) - are also great. Tommy february is very 80s pop, and heavenly more...pop-punk and indy influenced.

I'd recommend Nana Kitade's Rasen, Kamashimi no Kizu, and Utareru Ame. She also covered Moonlight Densetsu--the opening theme from Sailor Moon.

Also, most Acidman sounds like mellow hard rock and might fit your manga.

My friend Riku says Ayumi Hamasaki is good, as well as m-flo and ayaka.
