excuses for not writing...

So, here we are, a couple of days into the frenzy.

Today's question is: What's your best excuse for not writing?

And you can't use mental illness as an answer. After all, that's why you got into this thing...

My big excuse is "But I got x number of pages yesterday, so I'm good..."

Bad, bad Annie. :)

RE: excuses for not writing...

Not saying it's a good excuse, but I had a plumbing emergency to deal with on Tuesday...it put me a couple of days behind at the start.

I'm still saving the (fake) excuse that my cat threw up on the laptop.

Ah, yes, kitties! What wonderful excuses they can offer! I have four of the little furry babies. I'll have to keep that one in mind for later. Right now brain freeze is my only lame excuse. I started out so great and kind of know where I want to go. It's just that next scene, you know? And then the one after that. And then the next one.......

RE: excuses for not writing...

When it comes to block, and when time and word count are more important than serious content, always remember this excellent phrase:

Meanwhile, back at the ranch....

You can always edit out the tangent later. I've used it in NANO. You get stuck a few days, go off somewhere else, then come back when your brain unsticks. You might even find you can work the tangent into your writing. We've all likely read something, or seen a film, where some apparently random, odd things go on. Then, at the end, it all ties together. Perhaps this is even how that comes about.

Bond, 20lb Bond....

Garrr! I just completely finished my script, and I'm on page 98! I have over 20,000 words too, so it would have been OK last year . . .

Now I need to go back through and fluff up a scene. :(

CONGRATULATIONS!! (Yes, I meant to yell that!)

That is incredible. You finished, with this much of the month left!? I'm sure you can find 2 extra pages in your head to throw in there.

Thanks for making sure Louisiana has a winner in the frenzy... and for embarassing me back to the keyboard...

It's the 22nd of April and I trying to get out of Minnesota and to NOLA for Jazz Fest. I can't think of a better reason for not writing.

RE: excuses for not writing...

I wish you hadn't mentioned that one. I'd forgotten it was that time of year! Another excuse for me...

Hey -- you don't need an excuse! You've got pages... lots and lots of them...

RE: excuses for not writing...

Whewh! I scanned over my script and found one loose tie. Now I really wish we were counting words instead of pages!

If any of you need my characters to come eat any of your characters, I finished my script and set them free, and I'm sure they'll get hungry again . . .
