Just checking in!

Hey, mates --

How's it going? Morale okay? Page count okay? How are you feeling about the opus itself?

Me: morale pretty good (I blush to say I'm finding it easier to crank out four or five pages a day than I did 1,667 words for NaNo). Page count is at the expected magnitude, with a little bit of wiggle room in case anything prevents me writing for a day or so. The opus? I'm disgusted with it. I was trying to write a comedy and it keeps warping into a drama. A preachy, earnest drama. Blech!!! There are way, WAY too many of them in the world. Maybe I can lighten it up on the rewrites next month.

RE: Just checking in!

Since last night, it's been going especially well.

Up until last night, I was very dissatisfied with myself because the start of my movie SUCKED. I had left it unfinished in several bits and pieces and moved on, but it kept nagging at me.

Yesterday afternoon after the second Kick-Off, when I was doing some mindless work, I thought yet again about the wreckage of my movie's beginning, and how to fix it up and complete it...and finally, several lights suddenly appeared at the end of the tunnel.

So, after work and then dinner, I went back and rewrote about seven pages - and finally it all came together.

And now that I finally have a beginning in place, the rest of the movie is getting better.

Tonight I hit 25 pages, so I'm now a quarter of the way there.

RE: Just checking in!

I'm doing well. Just took 4 days off for work, slobbing around, and reading. Read some SciFi (which I haven't done for a while), since I'm writing a SF screen play I thought I should try and get into the "zone".

I too am finding this a breeze in comparison to NaNo. It's like fleshing out a master outline + dialogue, instead of all the word crafting of prose, and angst that goes with minute character traits.

We leave all of that up to the actors to flesh out. So it's kinda like writing in broad brush strokes instead of making your characters real by having them scratch at a mozzie bite on their elbow.

Oh well, that's my perspective. Takes the "control freak" away from the word "author" though. ;)

I've changed my plot mid-stream too. It was getting all a bit too violent and not enough character driven. Now there's a plot hole the size of the harbour in the first act, but I figure it'll work itself out... now that I know better where it's headed.

Hope you're having fun everyone!

RE: Just checking in!

I'm... going. I have nine pages, almost, divided up between three different short plays that I keep bouncing between. Nothing is really grabbing me and encouraging me to run away with it. I think I might need to mine some of the short stories I've written over the past few years... maybe I'll find some inspiration there.

RE: Just checking in!

I started today! I'm writing out the novel I started (and didn't finish) for Nano 06, so I have a frame to put a more succint story on. It was a bit overwhelmed by the combination of dialogue and description I wrote.
