Original Enough?

I have been working on one screenplay for the past several weeks but this morning I got an idea for one I might want to tackle after this month. It might be a screenplay, but it might be a novel. It would be set after the Civil War. A young mother has been left a (Conferderate)widow and is trying to support herself. She also must deal with her husband's brother returning alive from serving not as a Confederate, but for the Union.

Not fully fleshed out of course, but I just wanted to know if it seems too boring or "done before". Thanks. :) Happy Frenzying.

RE: Original Enough?

You might want to view Nicole Kidman and Jude Law in "COLD MOUNTAIN" before you invest a lot in this idea for a screenplay.
Not exactly the same as your idea but close enough. BTW, COLD MOUNTAIN the movie was much better than COLD MOUNTAIN the novel! Just my opinion, of course.
