[STICKY] Virtual Write-in times and location

This message has been posted to the British Columbia forum and the British Columbia-Vancouver forum, so you may see it more than once.

Thanks to one of the other Municipal Liasions, karalianne, we have a chat room for British Columbia. There are not currently separate chat rooms for different cities, but if there is a lot of use or demand, I can see about getting subdomains set up.

The first official chat will be on Sunday, April 6, from 8 to 10pm. I may be online Friday or Saturday evening (during April, Script Frenzy IS my weekend party destination! :-) ) around the same time, but I am not sure if other people will be around. You are certainly welcome to use the chat room at other times, if you happen to be online anyway.

The chat rooms are all-ages friendly, so please keep discussions clean.

People can join or leave the chat at any time. For April 6th, I'll designate the first 15 minutes or so as meet and greet time, where people can check in and say hello. Then, I'll set a timer for a half-hour "word war" ("page war"). At that time, your main focus should be on adding information to your script. People can still comment in the chat, or they can chat if they wish, but don't be surprised if you don't get a response from anyone else.

At the end of the half-hour, I'll announce that time is up, and people can compare how much progress they've made. It is completely up to each person how much information to share with other participants. YOu can simply say that you are happy with what you accomplished during that time, or not happy, if that is the case.

We'll have a 15-minute break, and then start another half-hour writing session.

I hope to "see" people on Sunday.

virtual chat/write-in Sat. April 26, 8pm

I have another commitment on Sunday, so I will host a Virtual chat on Saturday night, and another one on Monday night.

For the virtual write-in, people can connect at around 8pm, we'll chat for a bit and then write for about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, everyone is going to have to time themselves, because the chat times out after about 5 minutes of inactivity. After 30 minutes, we can chat for a bit and then back to writing again.

I'm sorry I haven't been very vocal. I got behind on my script and then I wasn't feeling very well, so had difficulty motivating myself to continue.

However, I'm back and going to do my best to make the goal.

How about everybody else? Still adding pages to your scripts?

I will host another virtual write-in on Sunday evening and possibly Saturday evening too, from 8pm until around 10.

Physical write-in/meeting - Saturday, Sunday, or evening?

One person has said that they would be able to come to Vancouver for a write-in. Are other people interested? If so, which works better for you: Saturday or Sunday afternoon (or morning!), or a week night?

I have a prior engagement this coming Sunday, so I wouldn't be able to meet then, but Saturday would be fine for me, or a weeknight next week.

Does anyone have a location they would like to meet at? I like Blenz coffee shops, but the two that I have been to are quite busy. Waves (either downtown or on Commercial(I think)) is another option.

Let me know when you would like to meet. It's okay if we don't meet this coming weekend; it will give us all time to make progress on our scripts! :-)

On Tuesday, April 8th, let's meet at the WAVES on Hastings and Richards. Waves does have places to plug laptops in, and they have free WiFi, I believe.

I'll be there around 7pm and we can meet from 7-9 (or later, if we are really into our scripts!)

Welcome to Script Frenzy 2008 Vancouver!

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to those that are returning for a second year and welcome to those that are here for the first time.

I'm Inez, the ML for Script Frenzy. This is my second year doing Script Frenzy, and I have participated in NaNoWriMo for seven years. I think I might even have an idea already for my movie script this year, but it could change before April.

I'll try to arrange writing sessions or general get togethers during April.

Introduce yourselves and tell us if what kind of a script you are working on: movie, tv, graphic novel...

Write-ins: virtual and in-person

For those that don't know, a "write-in" is a gathering of people that want to have support while they write. We meet at some place, write for about half an hour or so, take a little break to chat, and then get back to writing.

With this region as spread out as it is, it is hard to co-ordinate a time and place that is suitable for all participants that would like to attend. So this year, I'm going to try virtual write-ins as well as physical ones.

Virtual write-ins are generally run from a chat room. I haven't sponsored one of these before, but I've participated in "word wars" online and I think this would be similar. People join the chat and talk for a bit, and then a time-limit is set and you start working on your script. You can still respond to chat messages, maybe posting your progress periodically (much easier to do when we were counting words, not pages!), or asking for advice on something.

I still have to finalize the details for a virtual write-in. If I do get it set up, I may make the chat for all of BC, since I am currently ML for the province. The virtual write-in may be on a weeknight (8-10pm), perhaps with another on the weekend, if people are interested.

As for in-person write-ins, I'm still working on setting those up too. They will be on the weekend, since that is when I will have the time to organize an event or travel to another part of the region. However, if you know someone else in your area that is participating, you are welcome to set something up for yourselves and meet and work on your scripts.

I'll provide updates when I have more information.

Would anyone be interested in attending a Script Frenzy Kickoff party next weekend? (March 29th or 30th)

I apologize for not asking sooner.

It would most likely be in downtown Vancouver somewhere, unless someone can suggest a good location that is easily accessible from the Skytrain.

Let me know if you would be interested and we can try to set something up.

Best places to write in Vancouver

I'm one of those people who can't get anything done in my shoebox-sized domicile that isn't sleeping, watching television, or farting around on the internet, and I assume that there are a bunch of people out there like me. So, Vancouver, where are the best places to get a little writing done?

Personally, I'm partial to coffee shops. There are a million of these around the city, but my favourites are those that serve both coffee and alcohol (two kinds of liquid inspiration!); Calhoun's and Benny's in Kits spring to mind. What are some other good ones?
