EXT MIRANDA'S BACKYARD DAY
Paul and Carrie sit under the pergola, watching the dogs run in the backyard. They both have drinks with umbrellas in them.

CARRIE
Dad?

PAUL
Yes, honey?

CARRIE
Is it wrong to want more?

Paul picks up the jug and refills Carrie's glass.

CARRIE
I meant in a more philosophical sense.

PAUL
Everyone wants more. It's what makes us human.

Paul refills his glass and puts the jug down.

CARRIE
The dogs always seem to want more.

PAUL
Yes, but they think they're people.

CARRIE
And sometimes people act like dogs. But is wanting more wrong?

Paul takes a sip of his drink.

PAUL
Depends what you want more of.

CARRIE
Connection. Intimacy. Trust, I guess. Higher standards. Support. Love.

PAUL
I love you, honey.

CARRIE
Thanks Dad. I love you too.

Carrie looks into her glass, takes a sip, and then goes back to watching the dogs.
