FADE IN:

Int. Dusk. government agency

On Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, in an American Government building a man in a US Military uniform stands by a desk. This is lieutenant JACK DANIELS. He is in his mid to later 20's, American, tall, with dark hair (military short) and dark eyes very handsome, the epitome of G.I. Joe. Exactly the sort of guy who should not have a desk job. His military uniform hides some of it but we should be able to discern a few bulging muscles under his jacket.

He is busy at work, what seems to be dull paperwork but he is efficient and works quickly. His desk reflects this. There is lots of desk space as everything is either in a folder in the out tray or neatly arranged in a hanging concertina behind him. Pens and paper-clips are no where to be seen. Everything is properly arranged and organised perfectly.

Including him, his uniform is perfect (although every military persons should be), his hair is immaculate, his fingernails are manicured, he shows no sign of a scar or any such imperfection. He probably never even had acne.

A MOBILE PHONE RINGS

Daniels checks the caller number before answering.

lt Daniels

(Without waiting for caller to speak)

I'm leaving in 12 minutes.

(Listening to caller)

I know it, I'll be there.

Jack goes back to his work, quickly now that we know the time limit.

The office door opens and an older military man enters. This is COMMANDER BILL DANIELS, Jack's father. Bill walks with a limp and a cane. The older Daniels is dressed with similiar panache to his son. Everything in place. The two have the same characteristics in their dark hair and eyes and both are tall men. But whereas Jack is muscular, Bill is heavy set. It seems clear that he has not seen any front line action in quite some time.

The men break protocol and shake hands, there is no respect here.

cmdr Daniels

Got plans for tonight Jack?

The Cmdr sits in a chair across from what is now obviously Jack's desk. Jack sits behind the leviathan that traps him daily.

LT DANIELS

I thought I might head into town. Dan's set me up on another blind date.

CMDR DANIELS

Oh yeh! Good, good for you.

LT DANIELS

Yep.

Jack gets up quickly and retrieves two glasses and a bottle of whisky from his desk. He hands the whisky to his father and takes his own glass to a water dispenser.

Lt Daniels remains standing and watches the back of his fathers head.

LT DANIELS

So, what about you Dad? Got anything planned for tonight?

Cmdr Daniels turns in his seat to face Jack.

CMDR DANIELS

Oh, I see. I'm in the way. Well, no. Not a lot. Early to bed and all that. I like to check in on you that's all.

Cmdr Daniels drinks his whisky and stands to leave. He turns before he reaches the door.

CMDR DANIELS

(pauses)

Have you had a chance to look at the job profiles I sent?

LT DANIELS

Not really Dad.

Lt Daniels moves to the door to see his dad out.

LT DANIELS

I kind of have my own thing that I want to do now. I explained all of this to you.

Practically pushing his dad out of the door.

LT DANIELS

Bye then.

CMDR DANIELS

(pushing his way back in)

Jack, stay out of it. This is the job for you son. You're good at all of this....

LT DANIELS

PAPERWORK.

Neither men speak but regard each other.

Cmdr Daniels adjusts himself for the outside world.

CMDR DANIELS

Stick to what you're good at Jack.

He leaves.

Jack slams the door after him and returns to his 'paperwork' with even more efficiency.

cut to:

EXT. NIGHT. Berlin

Lt Daniels waits in a doorway. He is now dressed in black all over and from this tight outfit we can see just how much he works out. He is silent and still. From the distance we hear a car slowly and gently crawling towards him.

With split second precision Daniels leaves the doorway and reaching the still moving car he opens the door, climbs in and the car speeds off into the streets of Berlin.

cut to:

INT. CAR. NIGHT

Lt Daniels sits next to an older man, but just how much older is difficult to tell. He has the Robert Redford looks that don't age until later, complete with sandy blond hair and blue eyes. This is COMMANDER MARSHALL MINT. He is British. He is calm as he drives along and in the mood to answer Daniels questions.

LT DANIELS

Every thing's set.

cmdr mint

Just as we planned it.

LT DANIELS

My father may be having me followed.

CMDR MINT

He is and for good reason.

(He checks Daniels expression)

No father wants danger for their child. One day you'll know that.

LT DANIELS

You can't really believe that. You brought your own daughter in, you guys worked side by side, you were legends. I just want some of that.

Commander Mint laughs to himself.

CMDR MINT

You really should meet my daughter. Hear her side of the story.

LT DANIELS

I'd like to meet your family.

CMDR MINT

Time out from your own?

LT DANIELS

Exactly.

CMDR MINT

We'll see.

Suddenly the car stops and both men jolt forward. Mint now drives the car stealthily to a park and looks around to check the surroundings. He turns the car off totally.

Lt Daniels surveys the street and before too long a pair of headlights car be seen coming out of another parking space. Both men in the car hunker down as a car calmly drives past them. Daniels peers over the dash board for a second.

LT DANIELS

How long do we wait.

CMDR MINT

That takes time and knowledge.

They wait another few seconds and without warning or even time for Daniels to sit upright, Mint starts the car again and drives off in the direction of another.

We wait on the street for another few seconds.

Almost silently another car comes into view and stops at the end of the street.

We see only one occupant in this car. Commander Daniels. He drives in the direction of the other two cars.

cut to:

EXT. NIGHT. BERLIN. further

A wide angle shot of a wide street in Berlin. 5 story apartments all around. Lights and activity, this is after all Berlin. Still, things are pretty quiet with just a few laughs and we hold on this street for a few seconds longer.

A car screams from out of the blue and drives right across our shot.

Another wait of a few seconds and a second car follows the lead of the first.

At this point we have seen only cars and do not know the occupants inside.

cut to:

Ext. night

Another scene of Berlin but with a street down below, high angle camera work.

From the first second of the shot the first car speeds down the road down below but we now see that the second car is catching up.

Hold on this for a few seconds until we see the third car which was following Daniels/Mint earlier.

cut to:

Ext. Night

A more deserted street now, heading out of town. Overhead view of the two cars almost tail to nose.

cut to:

Inside Cmdr Mints car. Daniels is readying a weapon. Mints' driving has become more erratic now mirroring the car in front of them but still he is in control.

CMDR MINT

We're running out of road here.

LT DANIELS

I'm on it.

Daniels leans out of the window and with a great deal of skill and precision previously unhinted at he shoots out two of the cars tyres.

SCREECH

As the car swerves, the driver trying to take control, Daniels shoots another of the tyres.

The first car noisily grinds to a halt.

cut to:

Ext. Street. Night.

Both cars are stopped and within seconds all occupants are out.

Cmdr Mint takes the lead and quickly reaches one of the two male inhabitants of the other car. He grabs him and pushes him down on the floor kneeling on his back when down there. Mint uses rope to secure the man's hand while Daniels take on the more dazed man and ties his hands also.

Daniels reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small vile and a needle (like the diabetic pen which Harri has). Both men, now on the ground struggle but Daniels injects them and Mint leans them in a doorway. There is no discussion about this, both men know their place, as though they have rehearsed for hours.

This done, Mint goes to the first car and retrieves the car keys and does something unseen to the back seat. By the time he gets back to his car Daniels has taken the steering wheel and swiftly they drive off.

Within moments of them leaving the car spontaneously combusts. No huge bang, just a fire and a blocked road.

If we hang on a second we see the third car pull up and the occupant get out. It is Commander Daniels and unable to get through he drives back the way he came.

cut to:

Int. night. govt. warehouse.

An enormous football pitch sized room. Dark, metallic, industrial. Little light but large gold looking tubes etc......, firelight.

We pan through the rooms to see a hive of activity. Men and women in lab coats, some in military uniforms, none of which are recognizable. And a few annexed rooms, glass sides of course where the real chemistry and electronics seems to be going on.

Severed robotic arms hang from the ceiling whilst being injected with goodness knows what.

Benches of works in progress, good old fashioned circuit boards.

From behind a monitor there is a glint of flesh and we follow to see what is going on.

Cmdr Mint is back there with a small electronic telescope, such is the size of this room.

POV of telescope.

Electronic measures etc..... within the scope. Panning back and forth until a wheelie table comes into view. On top is a laptop plugged into a number of what look to be flash drives. The screen saver shows a US government logo.

Happy that he has found what he is looking for Mint leaves his hiding space and out of view of everyone he makes his way behind pipes and whatnot to a closer hiding place behind the table.

Once there he retrieves his own flash drive plugs it in and with a few quick demands he is downloading.

Suddenly

There is a commotion from somewhere else.

We follow the action.

Lots of lab coat people running around and shouting commands into walkie talkie phones.

lab coat

The whole thing's shut down. It's like someone pulled the plug...wait a minute.

He goes to look at the plug and instead finds Jack crouched in it's place.

Jack kicks the phone out of the lab coat's hands and grabs her, putting a chloroform cloth covered hand over her mouth.

Even more shouting now as the rest of the team shout for their leader who has now mysteriously vanished.

Alarms start going off and people start running out.

Jack leaves the unconscious woman where she is and comes out of his hiding place. Lot's of commotion but a lot less people.

Commander Mint can still be seen to be downloading and is behind the table ready to go.

Jack goes to join him when a door opens at the other end of the complex and he quickly goes back to his hiding place.

From here Jack can see nothing.

Commander Mint checks the screen, 95% completed.

Visibly shocked he stands.

as yet unknown female voice

What are you doing here Marshall?

CMDR MINT

Just a few things I forgot to get when you emptied my drawer for me.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

There's nothing here for you any more.

CMDR MINT

Just one more thing.

By this time the computer has finished and quickly Mint grabs the flash drive and starts running for the door.

Gunshot.

Cmdr Mint has been shot in the back and although he tries to keep running it is momentum keeping him going and he falls.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

Let head office know that Commander Marshall Mint was killed earlier tonight by stray gun fire in the ......... area. Take the body there and call our M.E. to verify.

Footsteps can be heard as the woman walks away.

Two men in military dress walk towards Mint, but Jack gets there first. He fights the two men who go down relatively easily, or perhaps Jack is just that good.

Reaching Cmdr Mint he turns him over and checks for signs of life. There is now a large blood pool and things look hopeless but Jack doesn't think so. He holds Mint and tries to shake him back to life.

Finally Mint's lips open and Jack leans in close to hear what will be his final words.

CMDR MINT

Suki.

He is barely able to lift his hand and Jack takes the flash drive from it. Commander Mint's hand falls back down and he is dead.

Jack kisses him and leaves the way the lab coats went.

cut to:

ext. day. cemetery

It is a few days later and a funeral is taking place. It is Commander Mint's but without full military honours, in fact without much of anything or anyone. The few people who are in attendance leave without talking and two men are left standing by the grave side.

CMDR DANIELS

It seems you'll be leaving for England this afternoon.

LT DANIELS

Liverpool. Where the Beatles come from.

CMDR DANIELS

That's a while back isn't it son.

LT DANIELS

It seems it's either that or football.

CMDR DANIELS

Gang of hooligans huh!

LT DANIELS

I don't know Dad, I have no idea what to expect, least of all from her.

Jack salutes the grave and walks away. The Commander considers it but unseen to Jack takes no action.

CMDR DANIELS

Expect the unexpected. You've read her file, if she has any grasp on reality whatsoever you'll be a lucky man.

cut to:

int. day. Liverpool. flat. living room.

This is a well decorated, well furnished flat not too far away from Sefton Park. The house is clean but not necessarily tidy. Every table top, seat, window ledge is laden down with books and newspapers. There are a few ornaments around, vases, figurines - Greek Gods mostly, a couple of Buddha's but oddly enough they are all blue.

A woman sits at a table eating cereal. There is also toast on the table and a caffetiere of coffee, it's thick black. This is MATILDA MINT, known as TILLY, Commander Mints' daughter. She is in her early 20's. She has a neat bob, 20's style, dark, Louise Brooks. We can't see it at this point but she's about 5ft 6" and of an athletic build. She wears minimal make-up and wears a dress/top and leggings with slip on boots. She is surrounded by all of the days newspapers and even has news on the radio. She reads avidly, going from one paper to the next and back again to check facts, counterpoint, spelling.

A small black cat twists its way around her ankles and meows impatiently. She takes a piece of her toast and give it to the cat as well as a stroke on the head but the cat is far more interested in the food. Once it's eaten a little it continues to play with it getting butter all over the floor. Tilly watches for a moment shaking her head and giggling at the kitten before she goes back to her newspaper and breakfast.

There is a knock at the door. Tilly immediately sits upright and waits for more, when nothing follows she scrabbles under the newspapers until finally finally finding a remote control she changes channels on the television.

Visual - Television shows a picture of her front door and standing outside is a tall man dressed in all black who she does not know, but we do. It's Lt Daniels.

Silently Tilly goes to an intercom, the cat follows her.

Tilly

(Happy sing song voice)

Who is it please?

LT DANIELS

If I could talk with you privately ma'am, my name is Lieutenant Jack Daniels.

(Jack holds his ID up to the camera)

I have news concerning your father.

TILLY

What news? I saw my father this morning, just an hour ago, he's fine.

There is a long pause as Tilly looks closely at the man and his ID.

She ponders, unsure of her next move.

Outside Lt Daniels wonders what's going on. He rings again.

LT DANIELS

Ma'am, if you could just come to the door, this really isn't something I can say over an intercom.

Tilly somehow clears her mind.

TILLY

I think you've made a mistake, my father doesn't know any Americans, he's a vet in Dorset...unless you're transporting a primate, is that what this is about?

LT Daniels

Ms Mint...

Tilly quickly interrupts him.

TILLY

Now you definitely have the wrong address, my name is Karen Smith.

LT DANIELS

(ignoring this as he has been trained to)

Ms Mint I know that this may seem irregular...

Tilly watches every move he makes on the monitor. She kneels down closely to see every muscle in his face. She reaches out to touch his face on the monitor before she even realises what she's doing and quickly pulls back.

TILLY

How did you say you know my father?

Lt Daniels is confused by the sudden turn around but in a split second goes back to his former story.

LT DANIELS

He treated a dog I was working with.

TILLY

Oh yes, what was the dogs name, I may remember the case.

LT DANIELS

(leans in close to the intercom and whispers)

Her name was Suki.

Tilly straightens instantly, her entire demeanour changes as she realises that he is who he appears not to be.

She reaches for the intercom to let him in when...

From above Tilly hears a crash. She looks again at the intercom to see what is going on but Lt Daniels appears to have heard nothing. She starts to walk towards the noise whilst reaching back to buzz Lt Daniels into the flat.

TILLY

(Spoken in an entirely different voice)

Why don't you come in Lieutenant.

Be careful of the upstairs landing, I've just had the carpet re laid.

On the monitor we see instantly that Lt Daniels knows that this is code for something. He takes something that looks like a billy club out of his pocket and the second Tilly buzzes him in he goes into stealth mode.

Another noise from above and so does Tilly. Carefully but quickly she goes into her hall way and takes a coat and a bag down from the rack there.

She can hear Lt Daniels coming and goes to meet him.

CRASH

The cat immediately runs behind the television and is not seen again.

Another crash and the ceiling falls in in front of Tilly as at the same moment two figures drop down. Without a moments pause one grabs Tilly the other gets ready with tape and security tags. But Tilly hasn't even begun. As one grabs an arm she uses the other to punch with and lands the assailant squarely on the jaw. The other tries to grab her but she's on her feet too quickly and kicks him in his groin, as he bends she knees him in the chest. Wounded he is down, but the other one is back from the punch and Tilly is just about to deal with him when the front door bursts open and Lt Daniels hits the guy with his club on the back of the head. He is out cold and just as the first is about to get back to his feet Tilly punches him expertly in the nose and he too is unconscious.

LT DANIELS

Who the hell are they?

Before answering Tilly relieves him of the billy club and prepares herself to do battle with Daniels.

TILLY

Friends of yours.

She raises the club and gives him only a split second to answer.

He holds his hands up defensively.

LT DANIELS

No...wait, I have no idea who they are, but they're not with me.

Her position doesn't change.

LT DANIELS

In my wallet. There's a picture of me and your dad.

TILLY

So what.

LT DANIELS

So he told me everything about you. Your work with him, your breakdown...I can name each of your four covers...

TILLY

That's nothing you can't get from Google.

She bends to take the security tags from the unconscious mans hands keeping an eye on Daniels and the billy club raised. She hands the tags to Daniels and he goes to work tying the mens hands together and still trying to convince her.

LT DANIELS

I gave you the name, it was his last word, it has to mean something.

TILLY

Means nothing to me.

Tilly walks to her cloakroom and takes a coat and a bag out. She goes back to the living room only to open a window, still keeping an eye on Daniels.

LT DANIELS

Then why'd you let me in when I said it.

TILLY

You sounded desperate.

She heads for the door.

LT DANIELS

Suki.

Tilly keeps going.

LT DANIELS

SUKI!

TILLY

Don't follow me.

Tilly opens the door when a noise from one of the men stops her. She turns just in time to see him turn and even with his hands tied together he brandishes a gun. Without a moments hesitation he points in at Daniels and fires.

Tilly dives towards Daniels and pins him to the ground. The shot hits the wall. It's too much for the cat who had been until now hiding behind the television. In two jumps it makes it across the living room and out of the window.

Tilly swiftly disarms the man and uses his own good to knock him out again.

Lt Daniels can only look on as his own naivety shows. He looks embarrassed and she looks anything but impressed.

TILLY

OK, I'll buy it, they'd never let you in their organisation.

The sting of her words shows on his face.

TILLY

But you're exactly the type of loser my dad would be interested in...

Putting her bag across her chest she leaves the house. Daniels follows her and she makes no protest.

cut to:

ext. day. Liverpool. sefton park

Tilly starts running and Daniels follows, somehow managing to keep pace with her and even running a little ahead, Daniels leads Tilly into Sefton Park, past the Palm House and the statue of Peter Pan and in to the Japanese Garden..

TILLY

Wait!

LT DANIELS

No, we have to keep going.

TILLY

I know, but there's a bridge over here.

Tilly leads Daniels to the bridge and they crouch underneath it.

LT DANIELS

This is not a good place to hide.

TILLY

Trust me, I've done this before, besides this isn't for that.

LT DANIELS

I'm not sure I get it.

TILLY

Tell me what happened to my father.

LT DANIELS

You believe me now?

TILLY

I'm testing you now.

LT DANIELS

That's fair.

You know that he was stationed in Germany for the last 7 months.

TILLY

I know that he was no more a diplomat than you.

LT DANIELS

I was working for him in my spare time. Four days ago...

Lt Daniels is still speaking when Tilly cuts him off, delaying the inevitable. She looks around at her surroundings her eyes wander off into the distance, to a place that only she can see.

TILLY

I moved into my flat here because this is where my dad always brought me as a child. The Peter Pan statue by the palm house used to be by the lake. The Palm House was almost derelict back then but still so beautiful. And this is where we used to sit when we needed to talk.

LT DANIELS

You don't want me to tell you.

TILLY

No, but I have to know.

Instinctively she leans in closer to him and although he's surprised by the early informality he accepts her.

Daniels looks around again. There are so many people in the park today. Not one of them is interested in their conversation.

LT DANIELS

I was working for him in my spare time until he got fired.

Tilly looked confused. Hearing that her father has died doesn't seem to be half as dramatic as hearing that he was fired.

LT DANIELS

(continues)

He needed to go back one last time, there were some files that they'd kept, he said he needed them urgently and I went along with that.

Four days ago we broke into a government warehouse outside of Berlin where his work had been moved to. He found what he was looking for and they shot him for it.

TILLY

How did you get away.

LT DANIELS

Nobody saw me there.

(pause)

But I was there and I stayed there after everyone else. I was with him when he died.

Lt Daniels takes the flash drive from a pocket and hands it to Tilly. He whispers to her.

LT DANIELS

Suki.

Tilly takes the flash drive without a word or a glance. She is silent for a while as she looks around her again, aware that this is the last time she will see this place like this. Some flowers are growing on the grassy side of the bridge, they may well be weeds but flowers all the same.

She stands up and picks a few. She pulls a few petals off distractedly. She moves to the bank of the stream and wordlessly tosses the flowers in. Both Daniels and Tilly watch as the flowers float downstream until they are out of sight.

TILLY

What's on this.

She indicates the flash drive.

LT DANIELS

It's encrypted, I've tried everything I know but I have nothing.

TILLY

You wanted to do this by yourself.

LT DANIELS

(hesitant)

I've heard a lot about you, I've read your file. I had no idea what I might find when I found you. The official line is that you're...burned out.

TILLY

You know all about me.

LT DANIELS

I'm pretty certain that I still know nothing.

TILLY

Well then that makes it easy on both of us.

She holds her hand out for him to shake.

TILLY

I'm Tilly Mint.

He shakes her hand.

LT DANIELS

Jack Daniels.

He didn't laugh at her name and so Tilly pushes down the instinct to laugh at his.

LT DANIELS

Who's Suki?

cut to:

int. day. Liverpool. abandoned room.

The two men who attacked Tilly in her flat enter and throw their equipment into a corner with a pile of other stuff. They are GERALD BAREFOOT and DAVID CANT, UK military and apparent mercenaries. We can see the cuts in their wrists and the bruises already forming on their faces from the attack but they carry on as though nothing happened. We can tell from the living arrangements and the empty cans that they have been here for a while. They sit and strip down to their injuries. We can now see their faces fully, one has a bloodied nose, the other has the swelling of a black eye.

From behind them in the shadows a female American voice speaks.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

She kicked your asses.

Both men stand wearily, fully aware of the ass kicking that they're about to get.

Gerald barefoot

We got what we needed, the tracker is transmitting.

David cant

They've been in the park ever since we left them.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

They.

David cant

Someone else showed up.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

At the same time as you.

The two men look at each other knowing the assumption that's coming. They've messed up badly and they know it

GERALD BAREFOOT

Yes.

DAVID CANT

Our mission was her. We did what was necessary.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

Find out who he is.

(neither men move)

What are you waiting for?

They shift uneasily, afraid of her but not afraid enough to ask how high when she says jump.

GERALD BAREFOOT

Back up.

(With disdain in his voice)

Her Daddy trained her well.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

Just, not as well as you.

DAVID CANT

Or you.

His counterpart gives him a look and he instantly regrets the remark. Even more so when a full can of food hits him directly and perfectly on the back of his head.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

Daddy didn't train me at all.

GERALD BAREFOOT

We've been in touch with our command, they agree with us. We wait for backup, then we go after her.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

Fine, but this time make it last a little longer.

DAVID CANT

You want us to test her.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

Absolutely, if she's been modified I want to know how much.

GERALD BAREFOOT

So that you can match her?

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

Of course.

GERALD BAREFOOT

Then there's something else you'll need to know.

The woman turns, she is agitated at this assumption until she hears the word:

GERALD BAREFOOT

Suki.

She returns to the room and stands in front of Gerald.

AS YET UNKNOWN FEMALE VOICE

(Psychotically calm)

Where did you hear that name?

GERALD BAREFOOT

It was the message he brought with him.

The woman smiles a huge open mouthed smile with teeth and leaves without another word. They two men go back to their business of preparing their clothes and weapons before the forthcoming assault.

cut to:

int. DAY. LIVERPOOL. PALM HOUSE

Lt Daniels and Tilly walk around Sefton Park's Palm House looking at the plants, the statues, the glass. It is a busy day and adults and children are all around. They show much more interest in their surroundings than they do in each other.

Tilly stops by the spiral staircase and waits for Daniels to join her but he's in no hurry. This is not a place that he wants to have a conversation in. Finally he catches up to her.

TILLY

What do you think of Liverpool so far?

Daniels looks around him and outside through the glass.

LT DANIELS

It's...a city.

Annoyed she turns from him.

TILLY

Liverpool is the the Capital of Culture for 2008. We have countless museums and art galleries. Medical schools and facilities coming from all sides...

LT DANIELS

And it's the biggest building site in Europe.

TILLY

(bruskly)

Regeneration doesn't come cheap.

LT DANIELS

You said it.

Tilly says nothing for a while but pouts and looks aimlessly at a statue. She has no idea who it it, but it doesn't matter.

After a while Lt Daniels clearly wants to speak but not here. He makes a move to the door and continues to look back to see if Tilly is following him. She takes her time but starts after him, slowly and seemingly at her own pace.

He realises that he can't take his eyes of her and shakes his head before walking out into the daylight and almost into a statue of Charles Darwin. Tilly is now following quicker and meets him shortly.

cut to:

ext. day. Liverpool. outside of palm house.

Lt Daniels leaves no space for her opinion of him.

LT DANIELS

I didn't let him die.

TILLY

You left him there for precious minutes, even seconds. You could have helped but it would have blown your cover. You may not think you did but you left him there.

LT DANIELS

I loved him. He meant more to me than my own father. There was nothing for me to do, the blood loss was massive and instant, how he managed to hang on long enough is extraordinary.

She looks at him surprised. (If he doesn't know what she knows then clearly he did not work for her father but then how does he have the flash drive and how does he know about Suki.) She foregoes her previous anger in an attempt to find out what he knows.

TILLY

Blood loss that massive could lead to all sorts of impaired judgements. He could have given you the drive by mistake.

LT DANIELS

Except that it was impossible for your father to make a mistake even with a fatal injury.

She smiles at him.) All is forgiven, he knows the secret and the only people who know that can be either trusted or killed on sight. She can trust him.)

TILLY

You know my dad.

LT DANIELS

Yes I do.

TILLY

I have something to show you, well someone actually...

Suddenly Daniels goes into stealth mode again. He stares at something on her shoulder.

Visual, a red blob on Tilly's shoulder. Then a noise.

Daniels grabs Tilly just as the noise is heard and drags her to the floor. Around people begin to scatter, there are screams and children crying.

On the ground behind Tilly a man is convulsing, he was shot and not her.

Daniels looks behind them and sees no-one suspicious. Tilly goes to the man and tries to see if there is anything that she can do. The seizure shows no sign of stopping but his wife is there also and already on the phone calling for an ambulance.

Daniels drags her away and her protestations fall on deaf ears. They keep low as they run around the back of the Palm House.

LT DANIELS

Do you have a car?

TILLY

Back at my house.

LT DANIELS

No time.

Daniels runs towards the street and the cars parked there. He heads for one in particular and taking a key out of his pocket he unlocks it, he opens the door and pushes Tilly in and over to the passenger seat before he gets in. He is driving before the door is even closed.

Lt Daniels drives, he looks around as they exit the park, trying to locate anything or anyone out of place.

LT DANIELS

Do you see anything out of place?

TILLY

Two men, in short sleeve shirts, over by Darwin. Shit, they're tending to that guy, they're going to kill them.

LT DANIELS

Short sleeve shirts is all you're going on. Other guys have short sleeve shirts.

Tilly does her seat beat up and then turns the indicator on to take the next left.

TILLY

Yes, but it's Liverpool in April. Everyone else has a jumper hanging out of their back pocket.

Turn here, take the next right and keep going. And just how the hell did you get into this car.

LT DANIELS

(smugly)

Oh you never had this technology? Handy gadget disabled the computer system, only works on certain models, hence the BMW.

Tilly is not pleased to be shown up by Daniels. He realises that he has done himself no favours and reverts to type

LT DANIELS

Where are we going?

TILLY

No where.

LT DANIELS

Your city!

ext. liverpool. day. suburban back garden

When Spooky had left her owners flat she had run at full speed for a good ten minutes. Now she had stopped and panted vigorously, her belly rising and falling at a pace. She had found herself in the relative safety of a suburban back garden and the long unmown grass gave her cover. At least enough to rest and regain her strength. The panting continued as Spooky checked out her surroundings to make sure she wasn't been watched from afar. Birds flew overhead, a couple were enticed into the garden by last years sunflower seeds and Spooky stayed as still and as silent as possible as she watched their every movement. Although it was April the sun had made an early appearance and beamed down brightly into the garden. Now that Spooky had her breath back she could enjoy it's warmth and momentarily forgetting her pray she rolled on to her back, her paws in the air, her head tilted back, she let her black fur absorb as much sun as it was capable and closed her eyes. She dozed there and considered staying the night.

int. day. liverpool. office space

Commander Daniels stands at one end of an expansive office space. The sort of space usually filled with pods and people on phones meer catting. The lights are extraordinarily bright and windows fill every wall. There is little in the way of furniture but for a settee and a table in front of it. Folded chairs rest against the wall next to a filing cabinet on which a phone rests.

Commander Daniels dumps a weekend bag and a brief case next to the settee and sits heavily. He has been travelling and doesn't take to it as well as his son anymore. Just a short time after he reaches into his pocket and takes out his mobile phone, he slumps further down into the settee as he dials a number. He tests the springiness of the cushions as he waits for an answer.

CMDR DANIELS

I'm here, what now?

Commander Daniels listens to a response on the other end.

CMDR DANIELS

Yes, send them after him, same as before though, just surveillance unless it's absolutely necessary.

More listening.

CMDR DANIELS

That bastard had influence over my boy for a long time, I want to know what he did with it.

Even more listening.

CMDR DANIELS

As per our agreement...everything Mint was working on...I don't give a damn about the daughter...keep her away from him, that's all I want from you...do what you like after that.

Yet more listening.

CMDR DANIELS

Fine, you have my number, keep in touch.

Daniels ends the call and removes his jacket to fold up and use as a pillow, he places it on the settee and settles down for a rest.

Tilly and Daniels are still on their road to nowhere and are now quite sure that they are not being followed. Not by a car at least.

There is something on Daniels mind though and he goes to speak on a number of occassions before he finally manages to utter a word.

Tilly seems to not notice, she is looking out of the window at their surroundings, they have driven down Smithdown Road and onto Allerton Road and are just about to circle back round.

LT DANIELS

You really don't know why people are after you?

Tilly continues to look out of the window.

TILLY

I know.

LT DANIELS

I just saved your life, any chance you'd care to share?

Tilly looks at him. Without warning she pokes him in the shoulder. He cries out in pain and it's all he can do to keep the car on the road.

LT DANIELS

What the hell was that?

TILLY

I was checking. You know that you have a tracker too.

LT DANIELS

The dot on the shoulder was too precise.

TILLY

Yes, but that's not the point. My dad low jacked anyone he cared about.

LT DANIELS

You're wondering how they got the frequencies?

TILLY

I'm wondering if it was you?

Daniels pulls the car over at the next available spot. He checks to see if this is suitable.

LT DANIELS

We're not going anywhere until we've sorted this out are we.

TILLY

You know we can't.

Daniels pulls a pen knife out of his trouser pocket and depresses the cars cigarette lighter.

LT DANIELS

You want me to do you first.

TILLY

I can do myself.

LT DANIELS

Will you just stop for five minutes.

Daniels reaches for the lighter and holds it against the blade of his pocket knife.

He continues talking but his tone is different, somehow provocative.

LT DANIELS

You're Dad told me that you were burnt out, but I thought, how can that be, she'd only 22. But it's worse than that, what the hell happened to you?

Tilly is incredibly annoyed by this simplistic view of her life.

TILLY

You couldn't possibly comprehend the things I've had to do...

She is stopped instantly by a scream, only just recognising it as her own. She looks down to see that Daniels has dug the blade deep into her shoulder blade. Blood runs down it but stops almost immediately and when he draws the blade out it has a tiny piece of electronic equipment attached to the end. Daniels pulls it off and holds this to the cigarette lighter until it fizzles to a stop at which point he throws it out of the window.

LT DANIELS

You only have a couple of minutes to do the same to me.

He pulls the neck of his jumper down to expose the same spot on his shoulder and without a seconds hesitation Tilly drives the knife home.

He cries out in pain but stops suddenly when Tilly puts a hand to his face. When she pulls out the blade he hardly notices.
