FROM BLACK:

INT. NCIS SQUAD ROOM – DAY

NCIS SPECIAL AGENT ANTHONY DINOZZO (TONY), MOSSAD LIAISON OFFICER ZIVA DAVID (ZIVA), and NCIS SPECIAL AGENT TIMOTHY MCGEE (MCGEE) are all at their work stations. Over on NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ desk his cell phone is ringing. Ziva and McGee acknowledge then ignore the ringing phone. Tony looks around, sees that Gibbs is nowhere in sight, then nonchalantly gets up and strolls over to Gibbs’ desk.

ZIVA
Don’t do it, Tony.

TONY
Do what, Ziva?

ZIVA
Answer Gibbs’ phone.

TONY
What if it’s important?

ZIVA
Then whoever it is will leave a message.

Tony reads the caller I.D.

TONY
Katydid? Oh, I gotta-

He reaches for the phone just as the voice of NCIS SPECIAL AGENT LEROY JETHRO GIBBS booms across the room.

GIBBS (O.S.)
DINOZZO!

Tony swiftly retreats to his desk.

TONY
Didn’t touch it, Boss!

CONTINUED:

Gibbs enters and grabs his phone.

GIBBS
(into phone)
Gibbs.

He whacks Tony on the back of the head in passing, then exits. Ziva gives Tony an I-told-you-so look, then turns back to her computer and looks up “katydid”.

ZIVA
Katydid is an insect?

MCGEE
Big, ugly grasshoppers - I hate those things.

TONY
Never heard of an insect using the phone. Must be an ex-wife.

Unnoticed by the team, Gibbs has returned to his desk.

GIBBS
Nope.

Ducky bustles in, ready to go.

DUCKY
Jethro, there’s a dead -

GIBBS
- Navy lieutenant in a bookstore. I know.

DUCKY
But how…?

GIBBS
Got a call from the owner.

DUCKY
Of the bookstore…or the body?

Gibbs reaches into his desk drawer, grabs his gun and heads for the elevator.

TONY AND ZIVA
(to each other)
Katydid.

Tony, Ziva, and McGee follow Gibbs. Ducky follows them onto the

ELEVATOR

DUCKY
What did Katy do? Kill the lieutenant?

GIBBS
Could be. She tried to kill a Marine once.
