John hangs up the phone, and starts to lay down again, only
to be interrupted by the phone ringing again.

JOHN
Good grief, I’m popular today.

John sits up and answers the phone.

JOHN
DiMatteis Manor, John speaking.

KAREN (VO)
I don’t think a one bedroom
apartment counts as a ’manor’,
John.

John grins.

JOHN
Karen! My lovely! My day is now
brighter.

KAREN (VO)
Must have been pretty dark to begin
with, in that case.

JOHN
Oh, very. My dog died and my
parents are splitting up.

INT. KAREN’S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - DAY

Karen sits on her couch, her legs folded under herself. Her
hair is noticeably shorter than it was in her prior
appearance.

KAREN
You don’t have a dog, and your
parents have been divorced for five
years.

JOHN (VO)
