What's your teen drama?

What's your teen/family-esque screenplay?

I'm not sure if mine really fits here. Oh well. My story is about a teenage boy coming to terms with his sexuality in a very slow and reasonable way until his deranged Catholic mother walks in on him and his boyfriend, which sends the mother into a frenzy, trying to exorcise the demons out of him and keeping him at the church at all costs. I'm not sure what approach I'm going to take with it - dark comedy, witty/light comedy or really angst-driven, but I know there will be an old homeless man that my main character befriends and the mother will repeat passages from the Bible whenever she gets into a situation she can't handle or solve.

RE: What's your teen drama?

My drama is definitely family-oriented with a 17 y-o senior going off to college at the same time her 21 y-o sister is getting married. Cue the drama with the shared-room sisters getting at each others' throats and a wedding planned the same day as graduation. Oh, the drama! (although I'll probably work in a fair bit of comedy)

RE: What's your teen drama?

Mine's a teen comedy, hopefully somewhat in the dry/dark humor vein of Juno if I play my cards right. My main character moves across the country following the death of her father and joins a "gang" of kids who rebel against suburbia by soaking fountains and forking lawns (among other things). But, as they say, it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt....

...then it's hilarious? That's the spin on the joke that I've heard. Still, sounds like fun, in a slightly morbid sort of way.

RE: What's your teen drama?

Mine's kind of like yours, K.A., but a bit different. It's a bit of a comedy, based on those sitcoms based on families you often see. I suppose it has elements and the same toning as Little Miss Sunshine.

Anyway, it's about a family that nearly falls apart because of their own problems and prejudices. The eldest son reveals that he is gay, much to the chagrin of his father, while the devoutly religious mother is having a real crisis of faith after her terminally ill mother asks her to help her commit suicide, while the other son finds out that his teen girlfriend is pregnant, and he himself has caught HIV. It seems the only one in the family who doesn't have a problem is the daughter.

I'm not sure how all these plots are going to link together, but is going to be explosive...and if I carry on like this it will literally explode. Gah! Screnzy's only a few weeks away now...must write...must write...

RE: What's your teen drama?

My teen drama is about a group a group of friends. Four girls that have worked their way into the popularity hot seats and are known as the Shiners. Basically it's about how their lives turn from good to bad to crazy to just them in their own little Shiner's world. They go through love drama and friend drama. The group basically falls apart but they come back together to rule the school because it's just what they do.

I know it sounds cliché and a lot of it is. But at the same time it really isn't.

RE: What's your teen drama?

Likewise! Not sure if my crap fits here or more in Drama.

Anyway. Copy&pasted from my post in the Rainbow thread, because I'm too much of a lazy arse to paraphrase myself:

Undecided as to whether or not my screenplay (because all the other categories make me feel slightly nauseated) is more drama or family/teen. Currently, it's about a gay teenager born into a strict ethnic family of Catholics living either in Canada or Australia. Someone's death rocks the family to its very foundations, and violence ensues. Amidst all of this, the teenager (name yet to be decided on) is trying to come to terms with his "sexual idiosyncrasy" as the stability of his life slowly deteriorates and he attempts to figure out where he can go from there. Further along, something else happens that completely subverts everything up to that point in time, and nobody has any idea what could happen next. Including me.

You guys mind if I add you all, or no?

RE: What's your teen drama?

My script is about a black 19 year old male that moves to his grandma's after getting in trouble with the law. It's his mom's last attempt to get him and his brother straight. He meets a white 17 year old rich girl. They automatically categorize the other one into the stereotypes that have been given to them. They stay in their "classes" until they start realizing that they were both wrong about each other.

I'm writing with my boyfriend and we're actually turning the whole idea into a television show. For Script Frenzy we're working on the pilot.

There's SO much to the whole show that I'd probably confuse people. And give things away.

The short of it all is that the kids stick to their stereotypes because they figure that the "natural order" of things. "Northern Lights" deals with racism, classism and a whole bunch of other "isms". It's set in California (I think)... but this is DEFINTELY not The O.C. sort of show.

RE: What's your teen drama?

Mine script is about a class of high school seniors on the day of their graduation. It basically follows all of the different groups and cliques through everything that happens on that final day. There is a whole big mosh of characters and no one is really the center of the film. I'm kind of in love with the whole idea, hah.
