PAD's Hogwarts Writers Club

Yes folks, it's that time again. So some of you might have done NaNo, and Tani had set up this for us all then. So this is the Scripting version. Who's all out there? I know some of you lovely PAD's people are doing it, so come and join me (us, hopefully) and we can all procrastinate to each other. XD If it's anything like NaNo, you're entusiastic now, elated at the end, and most of the rest of the time you're guarnteed to be going, "Why am I writing this heap of junk?" XD

So come, and share how you're getting ready for this. And this is Hilary Stevens of Gryffindor or Evelyn Fueutre of Ravenclaw, signing off.

Yes, I'm an MP for those who didn't know. XD

So, post away!

Luna Lovegood, reporting in! :p

Yeah, I have no clue how I'm going to do this, but I actually plan on winning this time. AND I have a plot, so thats more than when I started NaNoWriMo already. :D *feels smile deprived*

OMG it's Emma Staunton, a Ravenclaw.

I didn't do NaNoWriMo last year, but I fully intend on doing so this year. ;) As well as doing Script Frenzy. :D

I was kinda out of ideas for usernames, so I just put this one. It fits :P Anywho, I'm Arya Drottningu, first year Raven. I did do NaNoWriMo last year, and maybe this script frenzy will give me a nice idea for this year's, I don't know. Well, I thought I might try it, so here I am!

RE: PAD's Hogwarts Writers Club

Wow... lots of Raves here. :-P For those of you who don't know, I'm Bry Casten, Penshire. Thanks for linking me to the made group, Hilary! :-D

I LOVED NaNo... so I'm really looking forward to Script Frenzy. I haven't written a script before, but I downloaded Celtx the other day and have been playing around on it... it's really cool!

Does everyone have a plot or some general idea? Everything I've heard about Screnzy is that it's a whole lot harder to write if you don't have a plot... for the whole purpose that scripts are supposed to be concise and to the point.

Me... well... *rolls eyes* Everyone should know by now that I'm a HUGE Survivor fan, so my original idea was this: even though Survivor is a reality television show, it's perfectly possible for a script to be written AFTER it happened... you catch my drift? I was struck with this idea a few years ago and now seemed like the perfect time to play it out. I'm going to write a different version of "Survivor," with people I know from RL as all the castaways (plus a few virtual friends... Sam Craft, Prof. Ripley, and Shal Magoo are all going to make an appearance). xD

I'm not sure it COMPLETELY follows Screnzy rules, but I don't really care. LOL. I think I'll have fun with it, and that's the most important. As well as that... I think it'll be easier to write, because Survivor is basically FULL of subplots and already has a basic structure. Hopefully I'll get MORE than 100 pages, then, since some of the process has already been taken care of for me.

So that's my plan as of now! I'm super excited!

Good to see you back again Luna and Arya! And hello Emma... welcome to the world of frantic writing.

Of course, I've already talked to you Hilary. ;-) And you're totally right about the way you feel when doing this sort of thing... it's super fun in the beginning, and super fun at the end again. But the middle is pure hell. I was in such a bad temper the second week of November nobody wanted to be around me for more than five minutes. (Then again, I had to get about 20,000 words AHEAD of schedule by the end of the second week, because I was on vacation for most of the third and obviously didn't do ANY writing then).

And by the way, I asked Professor Dickinson if she would modify the Writing Club submissions to include scripts. It's still under consideration, but I thought I'd mention it to ya'll. :-D

Can't wait for April!

RE: PAD's Hogwarts Writers Club

Welcome everyone. (I still hate the fact I can't see the last ten posts. >.>) *grouphug*

So yeah, my plot is clear. This is gonna be the sequel to Aserith (my NaNo novel), which is, as my profile says, a cross between Firefly and Narnia. XD So yeah, crew & ship end up landing on Aserith, the forgotten island. 5 discover they have the powers fetured in Aserith and then a huge war breaks out on the continent, and they have to use the said powers/skills to bring balance to the place again and reawaken Aserith. And all that'll take 100 pages. XD But I'm ready. You only have to look at my profile to see that. XD

So I'm just going to spend April typing. I have the first fifteen minutes already. XD And by the way people, you only have to write four pages a day, and even that gives you 120. Right now, this is looking a whole load easier than NaNo. But maybe that's just from this side. I could be totally wrong and hate anyone who ever mentions this again. XD So yeah.

Oh, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to put my script in writing club anyway. I think it'll probably end up at a 12 or PG rating, you see?

RE: PAD's Hogwarts Writers Club

Woot! One week left... is everyone ready?

That sounds like a really cool idea, Hilary! I read bits and pieces of your NaNo Novel, and it had a pretty neat plot, so take it and run with it, I say! I've been considering changing my topic, but... I've told so many people about the Survivor thing that I feel like I can't back out of it now. *rolls eyes*

RE: PAD's Hogwarts Writers Club

One week? Eek. I'm not ready, that's for sure. So far I only have one character and half a plot. >.<

The setting is going to be in the future and my characters are going to find something from the past that the people are trying to keep from them. I really have no clue how I'm going to turn it into a script, though. I might just turn it into something like the NaNo novel if I can't get it to work.

Bry, if I were you, I would use the new topic that you came up with instead of the old one if you aren't sure which to use. It could affect how much you are able to write, if you know what I mean. ^_^ You can always back out of it.

RE: PAD's Hogwarts Writers Club

A week. I'm so ready. Although I only recently realised I have no idea what's going to happen past the first ten minutes. XD But I'm evil. I already know I'm going to kill someone off. >.> Probably the character I hate most and who won't bend to my will. Or the ones that determinedly fall in love after I promise the friend the girl's based on that she won't be in any relationships. Yes that happened in NaNo. So they both died. XD

Well, I've tested out Word, so that's what I'm writing it with. And I'm half way to the plot. I've already decided I'm having the UPS as an organization. The United Planets Senate. Yeah, I pretty much have everything in my head. Apart from how the war works out and all.

And if I were you Bry, I'd be using a new plot I love more, because if you don't like the plot, it will be 10 times harder. ;)And that sounds like an awesome plot Luna, I'd watch it. ^_^

RE: PAD's Hogwarts Writers Club

I don't think I killed any major characters in my NaNo... one is definitely destined to, but I didn't get that far. When in doubt... kill a character. That sounds horrible, but it generally works. Noveling, at least. Not sure about scripting.

Eek. I fiddled around with word for a good three hours trying to get the formatting to work and I could do it (I got tired of using tabs all the time), so I downloaded a free copy of Celtx a few weeks ago and am definitely using that. It's pretty amazing-- I'd suggest it if you want a really easy scripting program. It basically formats everything for you.

As for changing my topic, the thing is... I didn't actually come up with a new idea. I've just been thinking that something else might be easier or more... "generally accepted" than what I was planning. LOL. And I still really want to write the Survivor script... I was just debating if this was the right time to do it or not.

I dunno. I'm still thinking about it. You're absolutely right that if it's a topic you don't like it's four hundred thousand times harder... but I do like this plot, I just feel like it's kind of cheating a little bit. xD

That sounds like an awesome start, Luna! :-D
