Introduce yourselves!

Hello all,

Here's your chance to introduce 100+ of your scriptwriting colleagues to a future famous scriptwriter/playwright/television writer. Come on in, post a little about yourself, give the rest of us a chance to say "I knew her when, ..." or "He was a great ML before he became famous, ..." (or something more realistic). :-) Tell us who you are, what you're doing, etc. Entertain, enlighten, and inform. Or just say "hi." It doesn't matter what you say, just that you put yourself forward.

I'm Travis, your municipal liaison for Script Frenzy 2008 in the Boston area, and I approved this message. :-)

RE: Introduce yourselves!

I can't believe it's almost April-- 80 pages by the end of the month? Sounds fun.

I'm a student at a local college taking my third screenwriting course. This means I already have 30 pages of my screenplay finished, but I'm supposed to have the screenplay done by the beginning of May so this is good timing for me.

I am working on a thriller, which admittedly I'm not thrilled with (was that a pun?), but hopefully meeting with other writers will keep my spirit up!

RE: Introduce yourselves!

Well, let's see. I'm a 23 year old library staff, and this past November was my first NanoWrimo. Normally, I don't like script writing, but....I can't just turn away from an excuse to be ridiculous. Also, a friend of mine *cough marciana709 cough* sort of talked me into this.

I'm keeping my spirits high, and I actually can't wait to give this a shot. Now all I need is a story....

Just a silly suggestion for a story for you Tom:
I don't write comedy but how about two unlikely characters who have signed up for Circus school. That's right a school for circus performers. (There is such a thing.)
Go Check Out wisegeek.com! They will e-mail you some very interesting, if strange and oddly chosen facts each day, if you sign up. Today's fact is about a circus school. Check it out for further reference. There really is such a thing as Circus school!

THE STORY: How about some midget oops,(small person)sorry I got to be pc, anyway this little dude has a gradiose idea about becoming an elephant/rider & trainer, only he is afraid of ALL big animals! He meets a fat(obese) female want-to-be trapese performer. And the comical consequences that ensue. It could be good comedy, if that's your thing.

Anyway this was an idea I had. I know I will never follow up on this so if it works for you, knock yourself out. Just remember where you got this idea when you step to the microphone at the AMPAS Academy Awards: FOR BEST ORIGINAL COMEDY. Seriously GoodLuck. I wish I had started writing every day when I was still just 23. Hope to meet you at the meet & greet. John G.

RE: Introduce yourselves!

Haha, I like it. I would actually even go so far as to say that maybe the small person isn't afraid of elephants, but they're afraid of him (much like with mice). Might add a new level of hilarity?

I certainly thank you for the suggestion...interestingly enough, after reading your post, I suddenly had a flash of inspiration with a storyline that has absolutely nothing to do with clowns, weird phobias, or overweight trapeze artists. I think just the sheer act of imagining that all got my mind going full speed again, so thank you for that!

And if, through some Act of God I become famous, I'll tell the world that John G. helped me get started.

Not sure if I'll be at the Meet & Greet as I'm rather busy this weekend. But have fun there if I don't make it, and I hope to meet you in the near future!

Hey Tom!
Thanks for your kind posting.
It is always nice to make a connection with nice folks.
I honestly believe INSPIRATION is wherever you find it.
Many of us end up in a different places from where we started.

Supposedly the Scupturer, MICHAELANGELO who created the mavelous depiction of Mary tenderly holding the dead Jesus, a sculpture he entitled 'The Pieta'. He carved this pyriamidical image out of a single block of marble and did it in less than two years.

Some art observers believe MICHAELANGELO'S concept for the piece is so completely different from the other artists conceptions of the period, that it may suggest the image MICHAELANGELO actually completed is not the conceptual image he set out to carve. I confess my understanding of sculpture is admittedly frail.

I believe as we begin to write our ideas evolve while others develop. Somethings I never finished but they may have led me to investigate a better idea. It's that way with inspiration.
Anyway, I am delighted you have a story idea to write about and in some small way I could help.

RE: Introduce yourselves!

Hello All,

I'm a 23 year old Temp. with the Partners Healthcare (I push paper all day) heh. And while I'm still trying to finish the Script I wrote last year (From the Depths) I have like, 3 more scenes to do and I'm slacking so badly. I want to get that nice and finished and squared away before I start the Script on April 1st. Let's see, I only have five more days to do it :).

It feels so great to be plotting and sketching and just thinking up characters and a story again. I graduated from College with an English major and a concentration in creative writing, so...ya know, it's ingrained in my head but with trying to find a job etc, the stresses of life have kept me from writing anything for myself really. But I'm using Script Frenzy 08 to write a silly screenplay just for me and to write so feverishly that I never want to stop heheh.

My screenplay, in my head, is kind of a Psychological Thriller/Drama. I only have the barest bones of an idea but I hope once I start writing it'll just come easily heheh. And I hope to make it to the Meet and Greet this Saturday. I was going to go last year but chickened out heh. So we shall see if I'm there on Saturday. If not, God speed to everyone and happy Scripting! Woo!!!

Always,
Carolyn.

RE: Introduce yourselves!

It occurs to me that I didn't post a proper re-introduction of myself and seeing that I intend to attend this upcoming MEET & GREET at the Subway Restaurant in Boston on this coming Saturday March 29th, 2-4pm I had better correct that right now.

I belong to several on-line writer's groups. One such group is the NEWBIEWriters forum which is a group managed by a marvelously talented British woman named Dawn Copeman. I got more inspiration from Dawn than anywhere else. She is very giving and kind and she generates a marvelous monthly newsletter. check out newbiewriters.com.

Anyway about a year ago someone who regularly posts on one of Dawn's forums suggested that I might try SCRIPT FRENZY-07 in June the month long write-a-thon.
And since, I had already expressed that I believe screenwriting is what I should be writing and since SCRIPT FRENZY was gearing up for new writers it seemed a natural fit. I was successful by SCRIPT FRENZY'S modest '07 standards and so I am back for a second go in 2008.

I had a lot of fun doing this and reading the posts.
I have written seven feature length movie scripts. I have entered several in contests. Thus far I am undiscovered. I received a semi-final honorable mention in one contest I entered.

I am financially unable to procure a REAL SCRIPT DOCTOR'S services and so I struggle doing my own re-writes. Friends think my stuff is GREAT! They are always anxious to see the movies, sadly the real REALITY IS that living on the East Coast with no real Hollywood contacts my prospects to be discovered are truly bleak.

Did I mention I am retired from real work and living on Social Security at 63 and writing which is all I really think I should be doing. I waited too long to do this everyday. I pray daily to someday catch a break.

I wish I had started doing this a long time ago.

I am an avid NETFLIX subscriber and I go to the movie theater on average three time per month. I know movies. I love movies. I am a SCREENWRITER! ~~
(written for my own edification.) Indulge me that, won't you? PLEASE!

I have studied many screenwriting texts. My favorite quote is from Syd Field who is a teaching legend in the art of SCREENWRITING, having written many great books on the topic.

SYD'S QUOTE and my personal favorite: "I am a screenwriter! I'm in the emotion delivery business, and my main job is to evoke emotions in my reader."

"I know movies. I love movies. I am a SCREENWRITER!"

I like that. I like that alot. That is the perfect attitude for this sort of gig, methinks. I did NanoWrimo this past November, and I had to go into it telling myself I'm an author. Haha, I suppose it's time to switch gears ever so slightly and follow your lead, John...

Carolyn, it's nice to meet you, and I'm glad to see another English major 'round these parts. Hopefully we'll get to meet during this month at some point at one of the events. Until then...happy writing!

RE: Introduce yourselves!

You really do have to have a certain, can do attitude when going into an endeavour like this. For Nano this year, I didn't have much of a plot, but that's never really stopped me before. But this year I went in with no hope, no drive, just...oi, it was abysmal. And ya know, I wrote like...5000 words tops lol.

But with Script Frenzy, I'm excited. I've been finishing up my old Script and I'm excited to start my new one. I've been finding that love of writing I know I've always had. It just...goes to sleep sometimes lol.

And it's nice to meet you too Tom :). We English Majors must stick together, since we are rather few and far between :). And what a coincidence, I used to work at a Library as well. Are you at the BPL? Or somewhere in Brighton? ((No, I'm not a telepath, I checked your profile :), though having telepathy would definitley be up there on my "awesome super powers to have" list. :).

But yes, I do hope to meet a number of what I'm sure will be quite interesting people. When you put a bunch of writers in a room together, watch out world heheh. This should be good :).
