NaNoWriYe (National Novel Writing Year), known as WriYe
http://www.pro-board.com/index.php?proboard=nanowriye2008&act=idx
This is the year-long contest. You select a “club”, depending on how many words you are aiming to write in the year. There was a club for people aiming for less than 100K, 100-200K, etc., all the way up to the one for the insane people attempting to write more than 750K in the year. (I am one of them. My goal is 1kk). Poems, scripts, RPGs(and novels based on RPGs) and co-written stories cannot be counted toward your goal.

In the January contest, you can set your own word-count goal. This is like NaNo, only smaller. Attempted it for the first time this year, and actually won with 50k!

Write Here, Right Now (February), known as WHRN.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/radioscotland/jzdiary/0000008281.shtml
Not quite sure what this is about, but got this info from some forum:
This is sponsored by BBC Radio Scotland. The goal is to write 1K per day, and WHRN sends out daily inspirational e-mails to the people who registered. There are no on-line forums for it, so last year Tia created a sub-forum for it on the JanNo site. I expect that if you check the JanNo site in mid-January, you’ll find people talking about it. Carol R. Jaye is willing again this year to act as an unofficial contact for this contest (see her post on page 3 of this thread).

NaNoEdMo (National Novel Editing Month), known as EdMo

This is the March contest, and the goal is to spend 50 hours editing your novel. They organized us into regions that corresponded to the NaNo regions. I tried, but failed. :(

April Fools, known as, well, April Fools
http://aprilfoolsnovels.com/forum/index.php
The smilies are active: they bounce, they rant, they dodge, they zip off the page. You set your own writing goal, and all forms of writing (fiction, poetry, school-work, etc.) can be counted. When April starts, each person creates their own progress thread, and other people post to cheer and encourage.
Totally cool place, I am going for 50k...

Script Frenzy - moving to April in 08
http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/
This was the June script-writing (screenplays and stageplays) contest sponsored by Chris Baty, the founder of NaNo, but it's been moved to April. The requirement is a 100 pages rather than a word count, and they let people collaborate.
Obviously since we are on this site, you know what Screnzy is.

JunNoStringMo (June Novel Stringing Month), known as StringMo
http://stringingwords.creativemindwebdesign.com/forum/viewforum.php?foru...
Last June a lot of people did Script Frenzy, but some wanted to keep working on their novels. So, StringingWords offered StringMo. As with April Fools, all forms of writing could be counted.

Something like NaNo, but haven't looked at it yet (as I'll probably be in the cottage on PEI which has no internet, phone or tv)
