Welcome to the Act One sheepfold

Our little flock of writers has swelled to over thirty brave souls. And we welcome any and all screenwriting sojourners, from whatever flock you may hail from.

Besides a bunch of us praying for brilliance around the Los Angeles area, we have scripts started in New Orleans and North Carolina, Canada, Korea, and even Kazakhstan (who am I missing?).

If you aren't familiar with Act One, we are a non-profit program located in Hollywood that trains and mentors Christians of all denominations for screenwriting careers in mainstream film and television.

Our bywords are: Artistry, Professionalism, Substance, and Prayer

We encourage our alumni to produce film and TV projects that combine mastery of craft with great depth and meaning.

And while trying to write a screenplay in 30 days seems an unlikely means to arrive at "mastery of craft with great depth and meaning," neither will procrastination nor perfectionism. So that's why we're here.

The sun will rise on May 1st regardless of whether we succeed or fail at this Quixotic quest, but we might as well enjoy the company of those bold enough to attempt something as wonderful as putting a entire movie down on paper in a brief month.

So this little sheepfold is a place to come in out of the blustery gusts of insecurity and procrastination and know that the rest of us sheep will be bleating in sympathy…

a wooly welcome to all,

Jack Gilbert

Jack and all,

I'm in and I've nervously punched out three pages.

RE: Welcome to the Act One sheepfold

Baaaa? Thanks Jack for starting this. I've set my goal (5 pages per day for 25 days which gives me 5 days off), started this afternoon and managed 3 pages before I had a couple of emergencies (wouldn't ya know it) take me away. It's 7:30 and I still might get my goal yet.

RE: Welcome to the Act One sheepfold

Welcome, everyone! I'm really looking forward to this. (Of course, I'm having my moments of fear and self-doubt--the rest of you are probably going through that too. But with the Lord's help we'll get through this!)

I have to write between 3 and 5 pages a day, and I got 6 pages today! Of course the first day is usually easy - it's keeping the consistency that's the challenge.

Everyone check in and let us know how you're doing! Go team! :)

RE: Welcome to the Act One sheepfold

I think the 5 per day has some real merit, especially with five grace days. But I'm going for 4 per day. Somehow sounds less daunting...

Is it bad that I barely have an outline?
