Can't we just go back to word count?

1) I'm tired of the discrepancies in Celtx-between the paginations on script and typeset, between either of these and pdf.

2) I'm tired of all the posts in a variety of forums about page counts and page count issues. It's WORSE than the word count problems!

3) And I miss word wars. They're not happening because it's not about words anymore. And, imho, it should be.

RE: Can't we just go back to word count?

I'll join you voting for word count, but I understand wanting to make it about pages, since that is how scripts are measured.

For our purposes, thought, I'm all for word count. The system is already in place, and we all know how it works. I get the feeling last year so many people bellyached about "but scripts are about pages!" that The Powers That Be gave in to popular demand... now those same people are ballyachin' about page counts.

Meh. I'm going to write my script. 'Cuz that's what it's about, pages or words. We'll figure the details out later.

Right?

RE: Can't we just go back to word count?

Like Reina said - scripts are all about PAGE counts, not words. It's just how they're done - professionally and everything.

I haven't had that much of a problem while in writing wars with people. We just go by pages and some of us are writing by hand, in Celtx or just in word. We figure it out by how many lines we've done. Not perfect, but we're having fun and moving ahead.

Let's give it a go this year and see what happens once validation is open. Then, after we can give back feedback. Let's think positive and make the best of things. Change is always scary when it's in the unknown, but stick with it. Script are counted by pages, and so, this year that is what Script Frenzy is going to do :)

RE: Can't we just go back to word count?

I actually like the page count thing they're doing this year because 20,000 words was, for me, about 80ish pages and that is one short movie. If they do go back to words instead of pages as a count goal, I think they should increase it to 25,000 or 30,000.

As it is, I'm shooting personally for 120 pages this year because I want it to be a full-length script.

RE: Can't we just go back to word count?

Yes, I have no idea how to turn my script into a PDA. Jim (Captain Kirk) I am a writer not a computer sciencist.
I could be writing writing some extra pages right now.
And with the copy and paste word count I would be an officially winner right now.
Oh, well, I will just consider myself an officaily winner. And sail into the sunset with my fellow pirating cerificed public accountants and outer space purple monkey on their shoulder wearing writers.

I am using an old computer so I have no idea if I can even create a PDF.

And it looks like Adobe wants to charge me $9.99 a month to change my microsoft word file to a PDF. I used microsoft word to win last year. It is my magic software my broken leg. Why change horses mid dialogue?

Keyboard Warrior - we hear you about things being too difficult. It will be addressed for the next challenge. I like your attitude about concentrating on the big important thing ... you've got a 100 word script!

Here are the things that we found that should let you create a PDF without moola - http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/eng/helpfaq#node-2005894

RE: Can't we just go back to word count?

Cybele, thank you for your help neither of the free PDF conversion sites suggested by Script Frenzy wanted to convert my file. Both sites said my computer is older than the Greek play I was going to have my characters do until I found out the Greek play was too hot for Television.

But I do have the letter from Zamzar in my email box. I could could just email it to you. (lol) But I'm on the Central Coast (Central Time Zone) and its already past midnight and I am ready to throw in the ink squill.

Cybele and the rest of the Script Frenzy staff, thank you again for another fun and wild Script Frenzy.

RE: Can't we just go back to word count?

Another possible way to convert to pdf
1) download Celtx.
2) import your microsoft script into Celtx.
3) go to the typeset tab (at the bottom)
4) once typeset has done it's job, go to the "save as pdf" button sort of at the top
5) Voila! you have a pdf document.

There could be formatting issues, though, in any one of those steps. So I'm with you. We're writers! This tech stuff is annoying.

congrats on winning! (Verified or not)
