Plans for Editing |
I'm going to let mine sit for a little while, just so I can become completely unfarmiliar with it pretty much. I find that that works really well, mainly because you look at your script in a completely new way and you're able to figure out if "wow, I think I can make a go of this" or "that's terrible, but I'll give it a little time to shape up... maybe". I'm going to go ahead and write a new musical called DragonWar, but that's a whole other story (no pun intended). What is everyone else planning to do?

RE: Plans for Editing |
Me, I'm putting it away also - at least in script form - for a while. I KNOW what I wrote is pretty bad and full of plot holes, so I'm going to write out the story in prose form. Once I have a solid story, I'll go back and adapt it into screenplay form once again.

I'm going to have my friend look at and assist edit with me. He's a professional screenplay writer, so the experience shouldn't be too bad. :) It's should be interesting overall, since I'm a novelist and this is my first script.

RE: Plans for Editing |
I finished the script a couple of days ago, and then I got it all nice and PDF'd up and printed it off. Right now I'm beating it around with a red pen and waving it in peoples' faces to show them how awesome I am. The first wave and a half of printed-off edits are just going to be for grammar, typos, particularly nasty dialogue and any other plot-related things I wanted to wrap up, plus a little bit of scene description because I totally forgot to add any of that. But once I'm done that editing run, I'm tossing it at people to read. Otherwise, I'm going to spend a good amount of time pretending that the thing doesn't exist. Then I'll finally get too antsy, go back, and start the real long-haul process of editing.
It's particularly irritating because I love almost everything I wrote, and I don't know if I can really find anything to edit. Well, that's what beta readers are for.
("DragonWar"? I'd go see it.)

RE: Plans for Editing |
I'm definitely down for putting it aside for a while. Then, the script is filled with "revision notes" I jotted to myself of all the things I might want to add/change. This process worked out better than past scripts, where I'd go back and try to fix stuff as I was writing the first draft. It turned out to be a real momentum killer.

RE: Plans for Editing |
I'm going to let it sit and stew while I work on editing its prose counterpart, like I was going to this month until they allowed adaptions in Screnzy :-)

RE: Plans for Editing |
Eh, my script... I'm going to try and finish it, but it's going to be a lot of work, because the plotholes abnd bunched up scenes are crazy. After that, I'll probably do what Kat's doing, rewrite it in prose form, and when I've got the story all fleshed out, I'll start on Draft the Second. Then I can choose which one to publish! ^_^

Neo-courtney, I'm trying to finish mine too. I'm not sure i have plot holes. i'm not sure I have a plot!
But when I'm finished, I'm not going to write it in prose, I'm changing it from a 'stage play' to manga. I think that's what it should have been all along. Who knows?

RE: Plans for Editing |
I don't know what I'll do with mine... I had to end the story abruptly just to get through it and make the 100 pages. I might take a look at it someday, but as for today, I'M DONE!!!!

RE: Plans for Editing |
I need to finish mine - probably in May and then I will edit it. It's historically accurate so I will have my on-call historian review it (that ought to be ugly but it's my Dad so maybe he'll be kind.) I want to get this to someone I know who funds movies of this sort as I think it would make an awesome movie.

RE: Plans for Editing |
I plan on deleting half of what I wrote, re-plotting my favorite story that I wrote this month and re-writing most of that story (I didn't explain much very well), write more songs for my musical. But, first, I've gotta finish them.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I tried to be perfect, it just wasn't worth it.
I don't know how it got so bad.
It's hard to believe me, it never gets easy.
I guess I knew it all along.
