So what are you writing?

Hey everybody,

With the day growing ever closer, I was just wondering about what you are all thinking of writing. I've decided to adapt my fantasy Nano novel into a graphic novel. What about you?

RE: So what are you writing?

I'm not entirely sure what genre it is (which is vexing for myfrenzy page) but it's an abandoned nano idea about a motorcycle librarian. Part of my problem figuring out the genre, is that I still have very little in the way of ideas of plot.

RE: So what are you writing?

I'm going to do a comic book about a group of dysfunctional, teenage superheroes that don't actually do much fighting. One's goal in life is to die gloriously in battle. One breaks the fourth wall. One looks cool but is otherwise useless. One is androgynous and you don't find out their gender until much later. And one is a robot. Their villains include a twelve year old girl, a monkey, a penguin, and a graffiti artist.

In other words, it will be quite ridiculous and fun, hopefully.

RE: So what are you writing?

Your ideas sound pretty great so far!

Try as I might, I can't help but picture a large burly bearded leather-clad biker patiently re-shelving books...And makes me wonder...did he always want to be a librarian? Which came first, the books or the bike? Or did he just kind of end up there? I think there's a lot of different ways you could take it that would be very interesting! Sounds like a movie...am I right?

Morgana...I think that sounds cool and hilarious. I love how different all they all are. And that one breaks the fourth wall, lol. It sounds like an awesome comic!

RE: So what are you writing?

My screnzy entry is an adapation of my '08 Nano effort; a psycholgical thriller with a slightly erotic edge to it. It's the story of a streetwise detective assigned to a serial murder case. In the process of solving these grizzly murders, she discovers a few things about her new partner and about her own sensuality. That's about all I can share in a family friendly environment.

RE: So what are you writing?

Well, in October of last year, I was running one of my characters through the "Mary Sue Litmus Test" (out of curiosity). As I was going through the checklist, it occurred to me it might be amusing to have a character that had practically every single characteristic listed on that page -- to make them a completely-on-purpose over-the-top "perfect" character.

From that thought spawned an idea for a play for Screnzy... not to have one character with all of the characteristics, but multiple characters that seem just a little bit too perfect to the point of ridiculousness. I also plan to have one character who realises how unrealistic everything happening is, and is being driven nearly insane by it.

Oh, and because it just wasn't wacky enough with only spoken dialogue, it's going to be a musical.

RE: So what are you writing?

That test is evil. *sighs* last time I did it, I got over a hundred and fifty for one of my stories.

"...picture a large burly bearded leather-clad biker patiently re-shelving books..."

I should probably mention that my librarian is female. Although I have a character who fits the description you laid out (except for the book shelving) but he's the illiterate love interest.... or something. :)

RE: So what are you writing?

I am going to try a stage play ... if I can get the formatting sorted out.

If any luck, it will be an INTENTIONAL comedy - that is - funny on its own merits and not because of writer ineptitude.

Setting: A funeral home ...

Ah me ...

RE: So what are you writing?

My Screnzy is my abandoned and original idea for NaNo 08. -- It's a TV series, set in the world of Shadowrun.

Think cyberpunk mixed with magic, and you've got the idea. *grin*

Everything that I have been procrastinating to write about in the past few years. Unlike NaNo, I don't have to stick to one idea.

RE: So what are you writing?

I don't know yet. D= I'm way too busy/stressed to participate in this, especially since I have no idea how script formatting works, but I STILL can't resist just having a peek around...! Grrrr...

If I participate, I have no clue what I'll be doing, honestly. xD

RE: So what are you writing?

Bagheera:

Formatting nearly killed me. Of course - I spent hours setting up a script format only to realize I wanted a play format. Argh!

Then - worse - I realized there were templates all over the place that are easily copied and modified.

I am much better now ...

Cheers!

RE: So what are you writing?

Political thriller, following a candidate from deciding to run, until election night, with all the twists and turns that entails. Will the candidate get support from the major players? Will internecine conflict among riding association members split the vote? Will a former representative run and use the rough and dirty tactics to ensure his victory? That's what's happening in my new nameless as of yet screenplay.

RE: So what are you writing?

I decided sometime last year, after finding out about its cancellation, that I was going to attempt to write a season of Stargate: Atlantis. I've spent most of the last three months setting up a website, an LJ Comm, and have been trying to plot out possible episodes.

I started writing the first half of the premier back in...January? I have no clue. And I'm almost done that, but for Frenzy I thought to maybe tackle the mid-season two-parter. When today dawned, however, I went with another episode I had listed, instead, so I have no idea what the hell I'm writing along with it.

Nor do I know if I'll write them back to back or both concurrently, so I have an option of which to work on if I hit a block on one. Script number two may end up being the second half of the premier, if I can manage to finish the last 10 pages of the first.

:D

I really enjoying writing in unfamiliar genres. Natalia suckered me into trying a graphic novel (in addition to the plays + screenplays I've been trying) and it's been fun!

RE: So what are you writing?

After watching Dr. Horrible for the first time (it's awesome!!) I had to try to write a sequel.... I'm 27 pages into it and it's been a blast.

I'm learning how Joss Whedon layers his stories (every line has multiple meanings). And I'm impressed by his music composition skills. I bow down to the great Joss.
