what are you writing about?

I can't belive this is the first post here; it boggles my mind. as I am writing a tv script, and all tv shows fall into the category of either drama or comedy, it automatically puts me in this section, to go along with the more fantasy/sci-fi themes. and I'm a little surprised because, like it or not, every story has a little drama in it; even two and a half men had that plot line where charlie failed to get married because his fiance wanted to kick his family out. anyway, now that I done (very basically) ranting, here's what my story is about:

a demon and a guy who's family was killed by a demon are forced to work together to keep the supernatural community safe, and receive missions from a future seer. they fight, over the course of the series, evil fairies, werewolves, shadow monsters, several demons, and the inherent need to kill each other.

so, that's me: post your own!

RE: what are you writing about?

I'm classifying my script as drama... although to me it doesn't classify anywhere, it has a mind of its own. It's set the summer before my MC goes off to college, and at the start she's meant to be pretty much happy. She has a decent enough job, good friends, a close bond with her younger brother and a girlfriend who she loves. From there on out it's bad. In short, it's about being betrayed by friends, being indirectly murdered by friends, having to choose between friends, falling out with friends, growing apart from friends, and... yeah. Only I haven't yet figured out the ending, which sucks.

RE: what are you writing about?

Since there's a lot of drama going on in my script, I suppose it would be classified as a drama.

Mine is about two sisters, Justine and Emmaline, who vacation together at the family's ancestral home as they usually do in the summer. (Although, since Emmaline lives there, I guess it's not really a vacation for her). But this time there's the added drama of their mother dying the month before and having to go through her things. A lot unresolved issues from their childhood surface, and then there's always Emmaline's best friend and son staying with them (oooh, subplot).

RE: what are you writing about?

Mine is a radio play. The main character is a woman just out of university and recently out of a serious relationship. When her grandmother comes down with Alzheimer's disease, she goes back to her home town to help out. But while she's there she discovers some terrible family secrets that have been hidden for years.

This is probably the most serious thing I've ever attempted to write. So I'm hoping I have the guts to stick it out. :)

RE: what are you writing about?

I suppose mine is mostly classified as Drama as well. Mine is going to be a screenplay. I'm "making a movie" out of my '08 NaNo book, Losing Control, which follows Ashley to her ancestral home in Mason Ridge, WI, where she falls in love with a werewolf and a vampire and is haunted by her ancestor. :) I've never written anything like this before so I hope it turns out ok. :)

RE: what are you writing about?

Okay, after going crazy last night trying to think of something so I could outline, I remembered when I was fourteen I made a notebook full of plots that I didn't feel I was smart enough to write at the time. I found one I really, really liked, based on my love of family friendly dramas. I also like to keep my descriptions vague, so I'll say it's about two step-sisters who were raised as sisters their whole life, but when their parents die they're shipped off to live with the separate living biological parents. One of them gets thrown into a big family that's crazy and she doesn't know how to cope with them, and the other one gets stuck with an absent mom who was much happier with the previous arrangement of being a mother only in name. And that's all I'm going to describe, for now.

RE: what are you writing about?

Mine is a screenplay, based shamelessly on Romeo and Juliet, only with a twist.

Instead of Verona, it's set in Boston in 1774, and the families (Campbell and McFarlane) are on opposite sides of the Loyalist/Patriot divide. And instead of being only children, both the FMC (Julia Campbell) and the MMC (Robert McFarlane) have gaggles of brothers and sisters who keep getting involved in their lives and screwing everything up. A backstory I came up with that I'm very proud of is the Rosalind character (Alice), is now the fiancee of Julia's oldest brother, and Robert's brothers taunt Julia's brother about getting the sloppy seconds. This is a great excuse for them to have brawls in the street, very conveniently. I agonized for days about whether to kill off Robert, and I've decided that it's necessary. Now I'm agonizing over whether to have Julia pregnant when he's killed (by her brother).

RE: what are you writing about?

I'm writing a movie script (might be way too long...TV mini-series maybe?) adaptation of my NaNo '08. Even with the 50K words I never actually finished that story, so I'll be focusing on scripting the parts that never got written so the whole thing can be finished.
I'm classifying this as a drama because honestly there's nothing else it seems to fit under. "Drama" just seems a generic umbrella. It's about a master thief in a city that I guess is in the 1880s somewhere. The thief falls for a high-class girl he sees while stealing from her house and charms his way into her good graces, convincing her that he is a middle-class apprentice. At nights, though, he pulls off several audacious heists that earn him the wrath of a corrupt city judge, who wants the unknown thief dead. The judge may be beaten to the punch, however, because a mysterious virus is slowing bringing the thief down from the inside out. And suddenly he is caught in more ways than one...
So we've got some mild romance, great action/theft sequences, suspense, and a bit of mystery. And a botanist. Good times.

NaNo 2006: “untitled” (22K/50K) NaNo 2007: “untitled 2” WON! NaNo 2008: “Stolen” (52,090/50K) WON! NaNo 2009: "Stolen"

RE: what are you writing about?

My script is going to be a AU of The L Word, changing the ending (and the show from the end of Season Two) COMPLETELY! Everything in the characters' world will be changed and they will be forced to live with their actions. But... it will be A LOT better than the original ending of the show ;) You know what I mean if you have seen it.

My other script (if I decide to write it too) is going to be something about the Greek gods and goddesses being reincarnated into modern, everyday people who don't know that they carry the souls of these deities until a certain event (that I haven't decided) triggers, and causes some sort of big battle (hence the 'drama') between the deities and the people they have come to know.

RE: what are you writing about?

Mine falls under Drama / Comedy...it's a comic, though.

It's the average shoujo manga with a basketball theme. The heroine falls in love with the basketball hotshot and school idol, who has no interest in her. Thus she spends at least half of the series pursuing him in an attempt to win his heart, earning the admiration of the men surrounding them.

I throw a wrench into this cliched layout by introducing the love interest's childhood friend, who actually considers himself more of his owner. He becomes the antagonist from about the middle of the series until the end, taking the place of the love interest, who had tentatively filled that slot in the first half of the series.

I'm not completely sure about what I'll be writing (just decided I'd do a screnzy not twenty-four hours ago!), but I've got the idea of a folk duo sometime in the mid/late sixties trying to get some recognition, but they're not very good. So it'll be a dramedy. =]

RE: what are you writing about?

Mine (it's a new idea I just randomly came up with today and am now in love with) is about two boys in england from the opposite ends of the wealth spectrum. They meet, instantly hate each others guts but gradually become infatuated with one another up to the point they are convinced they are completely in love (yeah, /that's/ gonna be fun to write. >.>). Since both of their families are homophobic in different ways they decide that the only way they can be together is to go on the run.

HENCE ZE DRAMA.

The rest of it will flit between the point of view of the boys and the rich boy's twin sister as the family tries to catch them and bring them home. Mix in a love/hate relationship, hormones and what amounts to a manhunt for the poor boy and one could say it'll be quite dramatic.

Oh, and let's not forget the country road serial killer. o_o

RE: what are you writing about?

Like loads of others, I find if I go into too much detail explaining ideas, they lose a little something, so all I'll say is this:

Screenplay, it's set in a run-down shopping centre around the time the smoking ban came into effect in Liverpool (England). My main character is John, a father and security guard in his late thirties.

Hopefully the thing'll end up having a bit of a social conscience and raise questions about the concepts and realities of governments, communities, families etc. as well being observational and genuine. After many redrafts! For the end of April I'll settle for a complete 100-page story that doesn't suck.

Mine is about a guy whose bi-polar best friend kills himself. The main character, who is a complete emotional mess at this point, leaves to find his mother's remote Canadian hometown. When he gets there, he finds the place is a mess, falling apart economically and socially. I'd say more, but I'd spoiler it.

Some of these sound really interesting. I'm curious about the "Finding Nemo" one. :D

I'm not sure yet, but I know I want to write a drama screenplay.

My main idea right now is the story of what happened to Raoul Wallenberg's family after he was thrown into a Soviet prison, and how the "curse" of Raoul Wallenberg eventually tore them apart. Think Changeling, only not? I guess. Based on a historical event, but it's more focused on the drama element.

RE: what are you writing about?

I'm writing a drama/fiction/thriller about this young girl who finds herself involved with a high profile gang/mob. Not sure if it's a modern or an old drama but it has a lot of classic issues, intrigue, romance, guns, sex, power, money, and maybe drugs or diamonds trafficking. I think maybe drugs. Anyhow she get's involved trying to protect a cousin who's followed by the police. She hides him and hides his weapons and many other things from him. But specially one weapon that was used to commit the crime her cousin/lover was guilty of and chased for... "Any similarities with real events is only a mere casualty, ehm a mere coincidence." RE: what are you writing about?

I don't know how much my plot sounds like drama, but the way I'm imagining the movie, I think its a drama.

A soccer team that was imprisoned for political reasons (under an oppressive government) manages to escape and cross the border to another country. Somehow, a lot of them end up on the World Cup team, and through a crazy combination of luck and guts, they win the tournament.

I know, doesn't sound too much like a drama, but I'm planning on mixing in some romance (one girl, a team of twenty single guys, etc.) and other conflicts in the team that would cause conflict.

RE: what are you writing about?

Mine is a prequel/adaptation of my failed '08 NaNo, with a few new additions and edits. It takes place in the small town of Sunnyside, IN, known mainly for being home to Feinhart College, recognized nationally for its excellent business programs. Briana, the FMC, is a graphic web design major from Erie, PA who is entering her junior year. Ethan, the MMC, is still undecided when it comes to majors as he enters his sophomore year. Other minor characters play a significant role in both their lives, as by pure coincidence they first meet in an unusual way.

Sounds kind of cliche I know, but once it starts going along... that too shall change. :)
