AM I ALONE?!

It seems like everyone is doing a screenplay for script frenzy, are there any artists out there?

*raises hand* I am! In a cliché manga-style sort of way. (Trying to develop my own style, though) ;)

RE: AM I ALONE?!

You are definitely not alone.
I'm kind of a artist. I've been meaning to start a webcomic to improve my art skills for a year or so, so when I remember Scrip Frenzy is coming up I decided to get my act together.

Hey, I know this is a slight bit random, but have you read LinT? (it's a pretty great webcomic. Heh heh.)

Dudes, you guys rock. I've found myself with such a good idea, I think I'm gonna write a GN & a musical.
But I'm working on getting a bit farther away from Manga, with I started trying to draw. (of course, my Manga obsessed 'friends' think it sucks, but they can suck it).

RE: AM I ALONE?!

I'm trying to develop my own style, but my roots lie in a combination of western cartooning and comic-book art. I did try to draw animé when I was between the ages of nine and thirteen, but I outgrew it and went through a rennaissance of incredibly sketchily-styled, somewhat abstract pencil drawings when I was fifteen. Lately, I've been going for a very dirty cartoonish look while trying to have somewhat realistic anatomy, which is something I've never really bothered with much. I'm big for putting symbolism into my serious artistic projects, as well as the experimental drawing that I mentioned before.

I'm a member of the infamous flash group known as the Clock Crew, and my style has been greatly influenced by the members Topcatyo and ActionClock.
Their art can be seen here:
http://www.clockcrew.cc/talk/showthread.php?t=55151
It's long, but I encourage anyone who sees this to read it all the way through, because it's quite fun and the art improves throughout it.

RE: AM I ALONE?!

Welcome fellow artists - you're not alone!

There are many artists who have taken residence here at Screnzy.
I've been drawing longer than I've been writing and since I adore comics, I decided for this year's contest to put the two together. I'll be writing the script this month and doing thumbnails most likely in June.

Anyone planning on writing and drawing at the same time?

RE: AM I ALONE?!

I might do both, but I'm definitely working on the script first. I'm not completely confident in my abilities as an artist, and a friend of mine draws in a style that I think would fit my idea, so I might try to recruit him.

RE: AM I ALONE?!

Hmm...I'm pretty much a manga-styled artist, to the point where having panels read left-to-right messes with my brain. I decided to join ScriptFrenzy because I got the e-mail...yeah. I have, like, so much willpower.

Ha.

Luckily I had several series of manga lined up waiting for me to plot and script it out, and since the site did say that comic scripts counted...well, everything just fell neatly into place.

@shine_on_red: June, huh? Sounds like fun. Wonder if I should aim for that as well. See how loud I can make my readers scream about no updates. Hehe. ^^

RE: AM I ALONE?!

@DarkeAOU - Good luck with the manga. Read your idea - it sounds interesting.
I wrote/illustrated one for Rising Stars a few years back - didn't win but it was a fun experience and great practice.

My comic is going to be six issues - so the goal is to write them all (or at the least the first 100 pages) in April. Drawing them at the same time isn't feasible with my current work schedule. Not to mention I'd kind of like to go outside at least once next month. I hear sunshine is good for you. Although that's just a rumor.

RE: AM I ALONE?!

In its original incarnation (two years ago) my script was going to be manga styled, but I never got far. (Mostly because I didn't even write a script!) Anyway, now I'm completely sick of manga (except the really good kind - see Osamu Tezuka) so I'm going to draw it in my own realistic style, with facial features very slightly simplified, but definitely not to the degree of manga.

RE: AM I ALONE?!

Hey everyone,
I'm Kouran, here because of the e-mail notification I got on account of having done Nanowrimo and not sure whether or not I'll do more than visit. I've quite a few ideas for fantasy/sci-fi stories lined up, so it would be a nice opportunity to get all the groundwork out of the way in one swoop. I suspect I'll probably give this a go and maybe start the drawing alongside the writing as well. I'm nowhere near the artist zakattak seems to be (as I looked at his site), but I'm sure drawing a full comic will get me a good deal of practice in as well. Maybe, I'll post up some ideas to gauge which ones you lot (though we don't seem to be very numerous right now) like better and which you like worse.
Maybe I'll even be able to finally get a webcomic going because of this!

Thanks in advance and nice to read of you,
Kouran.

RE: AM I ALONE?!

I am also an artist. I have been drawing and writing as long as I can remember, but I never thought to put the two together. This April, I am going to write a script with my boyfriend and then I will draw that. It will be nice to have him interested and be able and willing to give lots of feedback. We tend to think along the same lines, so it should be a fun month.
I don't really have a style that I always draw in, I think. I go through phases, where a series will be similar, but I usually end up changing. So drawing a whole graphic novel in one style should be interesting.

RE: AM I ALONE?!

I am going to be doing a comic book script, which I later plan to draw out. I doubt I'll be doing both at the same time unless I need to procrastinate XD

I'm a big fan of manga, but I am also trying to develop my own style.

I figured that creating my own graphic novel would be a way for me to push myself to do something different artistically. Hopefully, I will actually draw out my comic when I'm down and it'll help with my art skills.

You are not alone! I do comics, although this is my first attempt at a scripted one longer than ten pages.

I am writing a comic script, but I have no artistic skills whatsoever when it comes to drawing beyond stick figures, so if any of you is an artist looking to hook up with a writer, let me know. =)

@shine_on_red - I'm sorely tempted to write and draw at the same time...Man, this is how I got into Script Frenzy in the first place! Has anyone seen where I left my impulse control? Must distract self...*continues reading comic*

RE: AM I ALONE?!

Nope, you're definitely not! (Unless we're all non-existent... In which case, wohoo! No finals!)

I wrote a screenplay last year, but mostly because my entire inspiration for it was the censorship of a play at my high school. I felt that the stage would be the most potent way to convey emotion I wanted to.

This year I'm attempting a GN because I think that this time, it's the best way for me to get my point across. It demands just a bit less realism than the stage, lol. Plus, I can be as graphic as I want in a GN, but not so much with live actors on a stage...
