I know, i read the formatting stuff, but...

ok, so i read all the blah on formatting in the resources, and i thought woah i jumped in at the deep end here. so, is it ok to just use stuff like this:
.......

SOME PLACE< SOMEWHERE - SOMETIME

guy1 and girl1 walk down a deserted street

guy1:hello

girl1:(smiles)hi

guy1:(smiles back)what's your name

girl1:(looks confused) i don't know.

.......

or is that an irrepareable breach of scripting protocol?
bearing in mind no producer will ever see this, and i'm writing for fun, although i'd rather not write more than i have to, and will this mean i end up writing pages more than nesc. if i formatted right? waaahhh...

someone help!

Well, it depends on what kind of script you're writing.

Honestly, you can write it however you want, especially if it's just for yourself. But I will say that if you're doing film or TV, you're going to have to write a lot more to get 100 pages this way. For a film script, the name and parenthetical have their own lines, so that little bit of interaction would end up being about half a page if it was formatted.

If formatting is a bit intimidating to you (and I know, the line-by-line description of it made my head spin, too) you might want to look into a program like Celtx. That way, all you have to do is select "Action" or "Scene Heading" or whatever and the program will do all the indentation and such for you.
