Zombies anyone? |
I've been knowing I was going to try a zombie script this year ever since before I did NaNo in November. Looking forward to it, though I am detracting from the original idea a little bit. Still, I know it will be horror, I know there will be undead, and I know it will be fun.
Anyone else doing zombies this year?

RE: Zombies anyone? |
I've always loved zombies, so I decided to finally do something with them in it. It's kind of like a combination of cyborgs, aliens and zombies. I don't want it to be too typical of the zombie theme.
This is first ever ScriptFrenzy; I just heard about it like a month ago. I don't write many scripts, and I've never written about zombies, so I figure I'd try both at once.

No zombies this year, sadly. :-( The very first screnzy, however, I tried my hand at a zombie flick. I didn't get very far, but it was a joy writing. :) This time around, I'm doing vampires, but I'm always look for fellow undead writing buddies.

I'm doing a zombie comic called Recycle.
It's about a group of people who survive the zombie apocalypse by hiding out in a waste recycling power plant. Eventually they decide to restart the power plant by using zombies as fuel.

I've got zombies in mine, but I was hoping to add something a little less expected. Does anyone know of creatures similar to zombies but not quite? Maybe something a little smaller?

I won't be doing a zombie script for the frenzy. I'm doing a mutated killer bee story instead. But I do love a good zombie yarn.
I did write a zombie script a year or two ago and am going to be filming it this summer in Las Vegas (actually in the Desert outside of Las Vegas).
BTW BrettRox, I've been enjoying your Twitter posts.

I'm still not sure exactly what I'm going to be writing, but I think I'd really like it to include Zombies in some way. Because, let's face it, Zombies are awesome.

RE: Zombies anyone? |
I wont be writing any zombie stories this year, but I have a plotline for one that I kicked around for a while... It takes place in a modern day Norther california suburb that is somewhat in the outskirts of populated areas, closer to dried out grasslands and farm areas-
The main characters are high school students, a guy who is an athelete and a girl who is more influenced by "Hot Topic" and black clothes...(she will change over the course of the story)...
Both keep seeing a mysterious figure, almost like a teenage "Tom Petty", with a white top hat and white clothes, and very pale skin with white hair that covers part of his face. This mysterious figure appears at various times in the suburbs, mostly at night (not unlike Michael Myers) and seems to take delight in secretly announcing to these teens that zombies will soon arrive. The two teens, the guy and the girl, form an unlikely freindship, (later to be a romance), as they are the only ones to see the mysterious figure.
During the day, in their high school class, suddenly the mysterious figure enters the classroom, with a note for the teacher, as if he is a student at the school...the two jump out of their seats, warning the teacher and students that this is NOT a student, but their fellow classmates think this is a prank, etc...the athlete character pulls on the trench coat of the mysterious figure, to reveal that he is part zombie...at that moment, zombies attack the school...the main two charactes escape after using classroom objects (staplers, etc) to fight off the zombies, and flee into the unpopulated countryside to escape...
As the film progresses, we see that this zombie attack is nationwide, and the two stay in the country and away from populated areas...they soon learn that the "white figure" is the leader of the zombies, and he somehow seems to be intelligent, almost eloquent, even though he himself is among the zombies....and that that they were reanimated via a goverment experiment...
At the end, there is a final battle as the two characters, in the middle of a dry dusty country hillside near an abandoned farm, have to battle their way through an entire horde of zombies and narrowly break free from the horde, injured, and run on foot as fast as they can toward a millitary bunker...
they are limping top speed as the entire shuffling zombie horde chases right after them... An army commander inside hits the close button for the automatic gate...the two main characters run towards the closing gate and fling themselves through the gate just as it shuts, and the zombies are held at bay

Words cannot even begin to convey my love for zombies.
Best mythological creature ever!
I really want to write something in the style of those old, campy, B-grade horror flicks. And of course, there will be zombies.
I don't want to give anything away just yet, but I will say that it's partially a love story.

I love zombies! No one else seems to understand my fixation with zombie films, I just love them! I am putting them in my script, I have an evil witch/sorceress whose helping a demon attempt to bring hell on earth. So she's going to cast a spell to raise the dead, and all who die that night, will be undead. Lots of fun!
Like the zombie kitten idea, any creature can become a zombie, think Resident Evil with the crows and dogs, or maybe a zombified zoo, where all the zombie animals turn loose? That could be good! Maybe my bad guys go round shooting the animals dead as they know all who die tonight shall rise as undead? I love my story! :D

Zombie corporations (can you say AIG?) -- but that's for the sequel, Black Science, along with the cannibal corpses the US government wants to use as weapons against the Taliban...
I'm updating the voodoo kind of zombie in my '07 NaNo novel Bad Company, which I'm adapting as both comic and movie. In this case, the role of the voodoo priest is played by one of the major villains, the MKULTRA psychiatrist, whose family owns the evil corporation that invades America. High-tech voodoo zombies, plus voodoo curses thrown at Islamic terrorists who are as superstitious as they are fanatical.
Of course, I'm going berserk throwing in monsters in my crazed little political thriller: hereditary vampires, a werewolf prosecuting attorney, a succubus New Age guru (and I actually do know one), an incubus Islamic terrorist leader, and the corporation as god/giant monster...

Yay zombies! I'm doing a horror screenplay with zombies AND vampires. I couldn't decide between the two, so I worked out a logical way to have them both.
The song "I Walked With A Zombie" by Wednesday 13 is the credits song for my screenplay. It's hilarious. :)

I'm jumping on the undead bandwagon here and thinking I might zombify as well.
Mine might be sort of a cross between body snatchers and zombies.... set in a faculty lounge of a K-12 school. No idea where it's going yet... but there's gonna be a lot of blood shed and brain munching on this thrill ride. And did I mention it's going to be at live (er undead) stageplay!?
Wish me luck, my moaning groaning rigored friends.

RE: Zombies anyone? |
Not writing a zombie plot, but in my story notes, I have my main character start off being roommates with a feral cat and a zombie who does nothing but shoot up morphine and eat brains. It's a literal dead, rotting, undead zombie, not someone who's acting like a zombie from doing morphine. The only reason it doesn't eat the main character is that he keeps supplying it with more morphine. However, it does fight with the cat over eating rat and pigeon corpses. I need to think of a way to make it actually part of the plot though, and not just a random idea for a weird roommate.

Huh? You do know scripts are at least like 70% description, right?! Dialogue-heavy is a no-no. Just FYI.

BRAAAIIINNSSSSSS!! I wrote my first NANO script on zombies and wanted to adapt it last year for FRENZY but decided to try vampires instead. It didn't get me where I wanted it too, although I finished the script. I can't say I am particularly proud of it though. This year I am going back to basics and the undead with my script about biological zombies. I have a lot of underlying plot, the zombies are just a replacable bad guy. It could be anything attacking these people but who doesn't want zombies running after their main characters?
Good luck all! twelve hours and three minutes to go!

Yes, I know a script is mostly description but it's a different kind of description. My novels are mostly descritption but it's boring. With the description having to be in present tense I'm hoping it will help me.
My script is going to focus more on the survival side of the Zombie Apocolypse.

RE: Zombies anyone? |
My original plan was a very scary zombie movie, with blood, guts, gore, death, more blood, swearing, death and more blood. And death.
And so far I am not doing bad. Except..... well - as a person, I am pretty incapable of taking things seriously. I tend to look at the funny side of things, rather than the serious side, and I can't remember the last time I got really depressed about something, because I just can't take things seriously enough to get depressed.
So, as you can imagine, writing a completely serious movie is something that is entirely beyond me.
So while I wanted something like (ok - I can't think of any serious zombie films that aren't slightly amusing in some way, but if you do, can you tell me) but instead it is coming out more Sean of The Dead (in tone, not plot!). But I am only about a third of the way through the main plot, and so far the major deaths/gore/blood scenes haven't come up. So hopefully in the next twenty pages or so I can get back to ripping people's heads off and spitting down their necks.
But either way - it is a lot of fun to write :)
