Adaptation or not . . .?

I'm not sure if this would technically qualify as an adaptation or just as Sci-Fi.

I'm writing my own story, but working in the universe of Shadowrun. So I don't quite know what that would be.

RE: Adaptation or not . . .?

Shadowrun is a role-playing game isn't it? Did I get that right?

I'm not sure if that would be adaptation or not. As you have to create your own characters in role-play anyway, doing your own story may be more of a Sci-Fi. Unless you are using any of the missions, then that would be an adaptation. Possibly it could be classed as fanfic as it's your own story in an established world.

Genre's are complicated lol!

Good luck with your script anyway. It sounds fun :)

RE: Adaptation or not . . .?

Ha. I have the same question you do. I've been thinking about taking the basic idea of 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking-Glass' but changing it a lot from the orginal story.
Therefore, it's not necessarily an adaptation of Lewis Carrol's orginial story/ies, but it's not entirely my own idea since the main character is Alice, she falls into a mysterious and chaotic world, and yadda yadda yadda.

I have nothing more really to add to the comment above however. If it is basically your own story.....but....hmmmm.....oh man...I'm sorry, can't really tell you.
It does sound somewhat like a fanfic and your own work collided....

IchthusFish is 100% correct, genre's are complicated!
I wish you luck!

RE: Adaptation or not . . .?

Hey, I wrote an adaption of the Alice books last year as a stage-play for the group of my girlfriend. Such a great and rich source, and so much fun to work with. :D

Anyway, I don't know if it's an adaption either. My gut feeling would be that it's a "based on an idea" rather than a straight adaption. Reimagination would probably the closest thing IMO. And yes, genres are complicated. I try to stay as far away as possible from them...
