True or Semi-True Story?

Okay, so my script is based on a true story. It's about my two best friends and myself from first grade to eight grade as a graduation gift for them. It's going to be slightly different than how it really happened and the characters names will be different, but based on a real thing.

So anyone else doing a real/semi-real script?

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

I'm not writing one right now, but on my list of "to-do" plots, I have a musical about a family of nomads. It's loosely based on my family's seeming inability to stay in one place.

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

Here's my two cents on realistic plots:
My first year of Script Frenzy, I attempted a script based on events that actually happened to me. The first pages came really easily, but soon I began to feel confined to what actually happened. I got stressed out and gave up.
I later picked up and finished that script outside the confines of the awesome craziness that is script frenzy.
This year I chose a wild and crazy plot that I love the ideas for, but it's flexible on my terms.
I respect your decision to do a script based on real events, but I do suggest with the these next few days left you consider whether you might be willing to change the script you do for this particular event. It might be better to do a totally fun, crazy story for Script Frenzy and do the more realistic script as a separate project.
I wish you happy writing no matter what you choose to do!

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

My script is very loosely based off of my own life experiences. I'm also using my friends experiences.

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

My first scene is definitely based on something that happened specifically to me, and there are elements of the story that relate to my life or the lives of people I know. On the other hand, I'm jumbling a lot of it together and not letting myself get caught up in what's true and what's not. So, yes and no. :)

That'd be a pretty sweet graduation present, by the way.

- A dead man once told me, "We are all lying underground, screaming, 'Let me out!'" I thought about this. I said, "Then I will be cremated and thrown loose to the free winds." "Ah," he intoned. "You will be the one screaming, 'Let me in!'"

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

Mine is veryveryvery loosely based on real events. It has a few events taken from real life thrown in with magic and faeries and the sort. ^^ All in all, with only three or four things in the play based on real experiences of mine, I suppose it isn't a true story. xD

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

Mine's not really based on a true story as much as a true idea. A couple weeks ago I was reading my sister's special edition People Magazine on Miley Cyrus, and recently I remembered a tidbit from the magazine. They had a section on her cast mates from Hannah Montana (the only reason I watch the show), and in the interview with Moises Arias (Rico), he mentioned his reason for getting into acting - he used to be abnormally shy because kids at school would tease him about his shortness (he wouldn't even speak in public); his mom thought an acting class might make him "un-shy", and he said it worked.

Something in that just screams story potential to me. :)

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

Mine is loosely based on my life from 6th-12th grade. For the sake of pacing and structure, though, the script takes place completely in my main character's senior year of high school. The framework will be based on real events, but the details will be totally original. I think in terms of tone, I'd equate it with Gilmore Girls, a style of dramedy more movies should look into.

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

My story is based on the events that occurred in the first half of my sophmore year. The events are all out of order though, because overwise everything would have happened at once, and that would have made for a confusing script.

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

Mine is, essentially, reality and what I'd love to be reality. You know when you're caught in a situation and only figure out what to say three days later? Or, when you have something great to say but you just can't bring yoursef to it? I've got three main characters, all of which share certain aspects of the real me and a compilation of the aforementioned situations. It's weird.

My script kind of begins in a real conversation I had, then spans out to what it would've been had my 'friends' been a bit more willing to talk. And weren't normal teenaged girls hellbent on starting effing high school drama.

God, I hate high school.

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

My screenplay is definitely based on a high school experience. It's insane because it's bringing up all kinds of old feelings. I'm so nostalgic right now. lol When I was a senior I asked this guy (who was a junior and a major crush) to prom and he said yes but then days later he took it back (to make a long story short). It was a pretty crappy thing to do. Other stuff went down as well so we'll see what happens when I bring all that up! :P

RE: True or Semi-True Story?

Mine is based on real events...but I'm playing with them...quite a bit. I'm not restricted to just things that happened. I'm having fun with it! ...or rather did..I finished for script frenzy, but the story is still going.!
