Your plot

What's everyone writing about?

Mine is about a woman, Gaia, who catches her boyfriend mid-act with another woman (always a good way to start a movie, right?), and decides to throw a dart on a map and move whereever it lands. Happens to be a small town in Washington. It flashes forward about 2 years. Gaia managers a used-ish bookstore and is quasi-depressed. Her best friend in town is the bookstore's owner, 90+ year old spinster Emilia Carey, who is really sick. When Emilia dies she leaves everything to Gaia, her bookstore and an old Victorian house that hasn't been kept up, oh and her magic. Emilia was a witch and when she died her powers went to Gaia (I think the way I'll explain it is Emilia never had children, but she thought of Gaia as the daughter she never had?). So a good chunk of the story is going to be weird magical things happening to Gaia and learning how to become a witch. Also part of Gaia's life is she has these two overly successful sisters. One is the ideal stay at home mom and the other (her younger sister) is a big shot lawyer in Hollywood. And the men involved in Gaia's life: Jason, the ex. The cute guy that lives in the apartment next door to Gaia (pre-witch), who thinks he is going to be the next big Washington rock star. And the guy that finally "gets" her is Toby, the clumsy middle school math teacher who lives in the small house next door to Ms. Emilia's old Victorian. I think the moral (which I believe every story should have) is about accepting yourself and how you can't compare your life to others.

Anyone else?

That sounds very interesting. I love the name Toby, so much that I also used it in my Nanowrimo08.

RE: Your plot

Okay, I'll bite:

My script is about a young drifter by the name of Jorge. Exiled from his home island after a highly destructive accident, he wanders to the castle town of Ettain, where he learns that the king is looking for a bodyguard for his daughter, who is about to take a journey to a nearby country to deliver an important message. Accepting the job, Jorge ends up embroiled in an enormous conflict between his home continent and the dragon-ruled continent of Naj-Kuc. Along the way, he meets and earns the close attention of several women, who may or may not include the princess, her bodyguard, two vastly different catgirl ninjas, an army captain, a priestess, and a squid woman. Who he meets is dependent on the choices he makes as he traverses the continent on his journey to save the human (and, er, semi-human) race.

It's a sci-fi/fantasy/adventure/harem comedy RPG/interactive novel/Dating Sim. With several opportunities for Jorge to transform or mutate in useful fashions.

RE: Your plot

Mine's about a girl name Olive (really random name) who is able to see ghosts, evil spirts and such. One day she meets a ghost girl name Lacey who can't remember who she when she was alive and Olive assumes that's why she can't move on. Although Olive doesn't normally connect with the dead she decides to help Lacey out, mostly because Lacey won't take no for an answer. What makes her life more complicated is that the Grim Reaper (I'll probably give him a name) keeps coming by to get her to work with him. I'm still trying to figure about a deeper plot but for the most part it's basically a collection of stories in Olive's life and digging deeper into the past of Lacey, and of course, doing the Grim Reaper's bidding.

A scifi/fantasy, comedey, slight romance mix.

RE: Your plot

Simple version of plot: Romeo and Juliet meets the American Revolution.

More complicated: Boston. The Campbell and McFarlane families have been fighting for as long as anyone can remember. Over land, over money, over sheep. (Yes, sheep.) The coming American Revolution (it's set in fall 1774) has only amplified this fight. As a joke and to check out a girl he's been pining after, Robert McFarlane and a few of his friends sneak into a Sons of Liberty type meeting held at the Campbell house, and there he lays eyes on Julia Campbell and dances with her. He then sees her again later that night, and convinces her to come outside and talk to him. With a very large push from her little sister, she goes. They agree to some kind of a secret relationship, and through a very complicated series of events, they both have brothers who find out and confront each other in a violent way. Robert and Julia decide that desperate times call for desperate measures, and with only her one of her brothers and her little sister and one of his brothers in attendence, they get married. Her father finds out, and goes to confront Robert, but Julia manages to get to him first. When her father does show up, it is with all four of her brothers, all heavily armed. The confrontation gets ugly, with Robert's little brother taunting the Campbell boys, and one of Julia's brothers shoots. The shot is meant for the brother, but ends up in Robert. Julia cradles his dying body, and chastises the two families for continuing to fight when they should be uniting. I've played around with the possibility that she's pregnant when he dies, but I haven't decided yet.

RE: Your plot

So my plot is about me...and my friends...and the guys that give us trouble.
It's mostly about me and the ups and downs I experience with one particular male, rewinding and fastforwarding through time from the budding of our friendship to his marriage to another woman. It basically covers the last year of my life, with subplots contributed by my friends' lives. There are four weddings, one break-up, two one night stands, and a trip to Canada. The plot is pretty basic - girl is in love with boy, boy meets someone else, boy marries that someone else, girl has to decide between love and friendship. Okay, it's actually more interesting than it sounds because the back story between me and this guy is told with flashbacks, and of course the subplots with my friends are always entertaining.

I write because it's easier than saying the things I think about.

RE: Your plot

Typical romance comedy.

Boy works in a garden built by a raving lunatic who dedicated it to the Goddess Venus. The lunatic is dead. The boy works under a sleazy developer who is trying to find a way to buy the garden from the city and use it to create an empty office building. A girl gets lost on a tour of the group. Boy and girl meet. Boy helps girl get back to her group, while developer watches. Boy talks with old woman, realizes he is in love. Calls girl. They go out. Lawyers, homage to the Three Stooges, find a loophole. Boy is caught in morality clause, fired. He has bought a house, tells girl. She breaks up with him, thinking he is bribing her for sex. He has to live in terrible house. He is down on his luck, and meets old woman again. She tells him to ask the girl to marry him-- and she will buy the house for her charity to use. Boy bursts into town meeting where garden is about to be sold, asks girl to marry her. She accepts. Lawyers burst in, with new information: if boy is married to girl he can live and work in garden. Mayor makes boy & girl sole caretakers of garden. Spring wedding scene with lots of blossoms. Fade out.

RE: Your plot

For some reason I can't get out of writing these rom/com stories, everything turns into it by the end. SO I figured I'd go into it with the goal of writing a rom/com from the beginning.

Mykalla is an overnight DJ on a small radio station in Cleveland. She is two months away from her 10th HS Reunion and her over-successful friends keep pushing her to attend even though she thinks she has nothing to brag about in her life. Her station is cutting DJ's and she is given the opportunity to prove that she is able to take over a daytime show by doing a special grand opening for a new exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her one loyal listener keeps pushing her to do well and she starts falling for him during her overnight talks. Will she get the job and find out who the mystery caller is by the time her reunion rolls around or is she destined to keep her slacker persona for another ten years?

RE: Your plot

Ok, I'll go next...I can't seem to get the synopsis any shorter, and I'm still not happy with the way it sounds when summarized!

Nina is obsessed. She thinks she's in love with John, an 11 year boy and has been since the last time she saw him. She was 7, and now, she's 21.
She thinks she's seeing ghosts, too. Everyone told her she was making it up, but now, she's an adult and she isn't making anything up.

She can't even make a life for herself.

When the house she grew up in becomes vacant, she convinces her father to lease it too her and she moves back to the east coast to find some answers about her life.

And, she secretly hopes to find John.

When she gets back home, the details of her childhood become crystal clear- she never made any of it up- all the people she talked to to are still there. And theres one more- Jeremy.

The last time Nina saw John was the day Jeremy shot himself. It was also the only time she ever really talked to him, as she dragged John away from the scene and into her house while her mother called 911. And now Jeremy is in her house, trying to talk to her, trying to tell her to find John before he dies, too.

So, Nina gets a little help from her crew at her new job as a police dispatcher.
An affair with one of the officers makes Nina wonder if she should give up on John, but she can't- she's obsessed. Especially when she finds out he's obsessed as well.

RE: Your plot

Before I start, can I just say that I've read the synopses of some really promising sounding screenplays here. I wish you all luck, they sound fantastic fun movies.

I just posted this in the Drama lounge, but only then did I realise, really, it's a rom com.
So this is what I'm writing: The In with Santa

My Screnzy is actually a Christmas movie I started writing 2 years ago but never finished. So I'm starting from page 48 and am only calling it a Screnzy cos it's going to make me finish the script god damn it. Deadlines are awesome.

It's a light drama, set in Australia (so a really HOT Christmas), about Chloe, who's mum and dad are separated, and Dad is living with his girlfriend. Chloe is a five year old who's kindergarten classmates have been spreading rumours that Santa doesn't really exist. So when her mum Natalie takes her to see Santa at the shopping centre, she tells it to him straight: If he really is Santa, if Santa DOES exist, the only thing she wants for Christmas is her parents back together again. If he doesn't pull it off, then that proves it. The kids are right and he's not real.

The Santa from the shopping centre turns out to be Chloe's aunt Ashleigh's boyfriend. And he takes it upon himself to do a little match making.

There will be tears and broken hearts and a broken arm, but it's mostly a light drama. A christmas movie but not really for the little ones. I don't want to be responsible for telling kids Santa doesn't exist!

If anyone is looking for a writing buddy for keeping each other honest and helping out with trouble scenes or character flaws I'd love to be there! Mind you, I'm at Uni and have a bunch of assignments due mid April, but still. Writing Buddy me, email me, comment on my blog - just contact me! :)

RE: Your plot

Mine can never be contained under one genre. It's sort of a mix of romantic comedy, with a bit of science-fiction, and a good dollop of weird as well...

Altrapersona Corporations, a new company, offer a radical new treatment for relationships nearing total breakdown. Each partner is transplanted into the other one's shoes, except for five minutes per day where they revert back to their normal selves. This treatment takes a month or so before wearing off. It is also combined with a bit of good old-fashioned relationship counselling.
One such couple, who live in London, called Nemo and Cleo, are very much on breakdown stage due to Cleo's constant alcoholism and her resentment of Nemo's attempt at having a controlling influence over her. They undergo the treatment, but something goes wrong in the process. Cleo remains who she is, but Nemo becomes another person through some freak accident. Since it's accidental, it's unsure whether it's permanent or not.
Unfortunately, this means that this other person probably thinks that they are Nemo, so Cleo has to bring these two people together and get them to teach other who they are in a bid to trigger a reversal. There's also a very good reason this accident has happened, but I'm saying no more...

Whew. It's complicated, of course, but I'm quite pleased with this plot. It's a bit like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (a film that I have yet to see) meets bodyswapping...

RE: Your plot

Nancy Clayman is a young woman who wants to one day become published. When she is not writing, she is hanging out with her best friend, Katherine and thinking about writing. When she can, she will (try) to write when she is not busy working at the coffee shop.
One rainy night, Nancy is home alone, watching a horror movie, and it is storming terribly outside. She notices that her kitten, Caspian, is missing. Suddenly, there is a knock on the door. She becomes terrified. Slowly, she approaches the door, an umbrella held like a club in her hand, ready to strike...
WHAM! She hits the tall, dark hooded figure right on top of the head.
Turns out, it was just a man in a black hooded jacket who had found Caspian and was trying to return him to Nancy. Nancy, embarassed, lets him come in, makes sure he isn't hurt too badly, and they begin to talk. His name is Robert, and he is the English professor at the local college, and also currently dating Nancy's best friend Katherine.
And it all goes from there. Exactly where it goes, I really don't know, but I'll hopefully find out soon. :)

I came up with this when I was goofing off during NaNo and started one of the paragraphs with "It was a dark and stormy night..." lol

RE: Your plot

Mine's about three baseball players who find themselves in the following situation (while having to keep their relationship(s) a secret from their teammates - stereotypical, I know, but what was I gonna do?):

Jonathan is going out with Rich, who also likes Blake, who kinda-sorta likes Jonathan, who kinda-sorta likes him back but is a bit too submissive towards Rich to actually do anything about it, even after Jason tells Jonathan that Blake likes him.

...I've managed to confuse even myself, and as of this morning I'm only 18 pages in. Oh joy.

RE: Your plot

It's about a girl named Patricia (Patti for short) who is in love with this guy Kevin. Kevin's mom's job relocates but Kevin is at the time committed to making this work. They only moved over a few towns anyway. Then we flash in to nine months later and Kevin and Patti have been dating for ten months now and Kevin has started to move past. So he is going to break up with her, but shortly before he is in a bad car accident. He is put in a coma and Patti into hysterics. She come and visits every day after school and talks to him. She's always crying and unresponsive (typical). Then she finds a message between Kevin and Carter (his best friend) talking about breaking up with her. Once Kevin comes out of the coma though he has amnesia and doesn't remember who Patti is! Or anyone else for that matter. So Patti has to help Kevin remember her. I'm notsure yet if I'm gonna make him come out and remember her and love her or break up with her still (a real heart breaker, but I like drama =D )

What do you guys think of it? I'm still unsure. Feel free to critique... I'm looking for someone who knows what their doing 'cause I don't!

If you want to read what little bit I have done ask and I'll give you the site.

I am a 14 year old girl going CRAZY trying to finish this script! I would love to hear advice from anyone wo knows what they're doing... because I DON'T!!!

RE: Your plot

why not

Mine is about a 25 year old college graduate, Heidi (character is pretty much based on me) working a dead end hourly paying job living in her parents basement. At her job she meets a couple of celebs in the area filming and becomes friends with them. It goes through the relationship with one particular actor, Jason, and how they go from friends to more than friends, to falling in love to falling apart. There are 2 comedy reliefs, Heidi's best friend Kristy, and another actor, Russ. There's more to it, but that's the short version. :)
