Adopt a running gag |
I figured I'd start this, because what script isn't complete without a running gag?
For the starting off few:
A character with a strange affiliation for spoons popping up at random times
A phone rings for no reason and whenever someone answers it they shout a few seconds later: "No I do not know anyone named (Insert name here)"

RE: Adopt a running gag |
When in a new setting, a character gets a really dirty stare from a complete stranger for no reason.
Tehe. ^^

Every time a secondary character cuts herself, the supply cabinet is out of Band-Aids.
Putting a type of junk food in every shot involving stressful conversations (the main character is addicted to food).

No matter WHERE the characters are, they always have tea in every location. Bonus points if they're drinking tea when something important happens (like the time I was drinking tea when the bailiff knocked down the door and raided my squat).

RE: Adopt a running gag |
Have the same song come on the radio the first time a character turns it on every time, and then have them change the station or turn it off after a few seconds so that the song is never played all the way through.
Have a crossdresser in every scene just in the background.
Have lawn ornaments (such as gnomes, flamingoes and fountains) appear in random places.

Okay i'll be taking...
A phone rings for no reason and whenever someone answers it they shout a few seconds later: "No I do not know anyone named (Insert name here)"
... i love this =D
Leaving:
*a character always finds different playing cards in random places
*whenever a certain character comes on somebody sneezes

RE: Adopt a running gag |
I think I'll steal: Have the same song come on the radio the first time a character turns it on every time, and then have them change the station or turn it off after a few seconds so that the song is never played all the way through.
and maybe: *a character always finds different playing cards in random places
Leaving:
-Whenever a character enters, everyone stops talking as if they were talking about the character. This causes the character to become very paranoid.
-Have someone constantly wear sunglasses at night but not during the day. (Bonus points if "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night" comes on at some point.)

RE: Adopt a running gag |
I think I'll take the lawn ornaments one. That could come in handy. Fencing with flamingos. . . hmmmmm. I'll leave:
Have someone consistantly walk into doors, walls, etc.
Have one character go on a trip, and another character tell them that that s/he is going to hide in their suitcase. Have the first character brush it off as a joke, then open their suitcase to find the second character hidden inside. This happens multiple times. Or, the suitcase could get lost.
Have someone's precious item, aka jacket, necklace, cupcake, etc, get stolen, and have that character spend the rest of the time going to absurd lengths to find out who stole it and where it is. Yes, I stole this from NCIS. Episode was season 6, episode 3, I think. Don't know, but it was called Capitol Offense.

Have a character make a point by prefacing it with, "Well, you know what Mike Brady says..." Possibly have a bracelet or a shirt that has "WWMBD" on it.

Because I love NCIS and that is just fits perfectly for my plot
Leaving:
Have a character that randomly beeps.
bonus points if the character doesn't realize s/he is doing it
extra bonus points if the character thinks someone else is doing it

Taking "When in a new setting, a character gets a really dirty stare from a complete stranger for no reason.". It actually works perfectly for my story, though not played for laughs.
Leaving:
*A cellphone that goes off at the most awkward times possible. Bonus points if it has a loud, embarrassing ringtone.
*A character who is hated by all pets. Anywhere he or she goes, even friendly animals will attack him or her. Bonus points if the pets include turtles, canaries, or tropical fish.

Taking: The one with the tea in every scene, with slight modification.
Leaving:
- Everytime a character (particularly a sketchy one) answers the phone, he excuses himsefl to talk privately but never reveals what he's talking about to the other characters.
- A particular flower shows up in most scenes, and at the end the MMC picks one and gives it to the FMC.

I think I might take this one, since my MMC is afraid of garden gnomes and thinks they'll take over the world someday:
"Have lawn ornaments (such as gnomes, flamingoes and fountains) appear in random places."
I'd leave some, but I'm a bit braindead at the moment...

Since I do that anyway. Not that my characters play the radio often, but it could be fun.
Leaving: Chickens. Have chickens pop up everywhere, even if it's just decorations.
Bonus Points if it's a live chicken all the time.
Double Bonus Points if your character loves chickens.
Triple Bonus Points if your character automatically gravitates to the chickens.

Tatra, does it count if the fictional band I'm writing about is called The Chicken Fivesome and Crew? XD
Taking the band-aids and the phone.
Will have fun with it.
Leaving...
Have a character in his thirties - forties complain about his "old man hips."

RE: Adopt a running gag |
I love the chickens, I may take it as there's already a glass chicken money bank that played a roll in my first couple scenes.
Have something small and insignificant on fire in every scene. Could be a candle, if you're not feeling adventurous, but make certain that there's a flame.
-
A dead man once told me, "We are all lying underground, screaming, 'Let me out!'" I thought about this. I said, "Then I will be cremated and thrown loose to the free winds." "Ah," he intoned. "You will be the one screaming, 'Let me in!'" |

Totally taking:
*A character who is hated by all pets. Anywhere he or she goes, even friendly animals will attack him or her. Bonus points if the pets include turtles, canaries, or tropical fish.
-this will come in handy when things get slow, thanks!
and possibly:
*A cellphone that goes off at the most awkward times possible. Bonus points if it has a loud, embarrassing ringtone.
-could be a plot device...
leaving:
A character that will point to a random object and ask the other characters present: "Is *that* a narwhal?"
Bonus points if narwhals often pop up when the paticular character is not in the scene or has just left. Then another character can at one inopportune moment point to a narwhal and say: "now *that* is a narwhal."

Taking again! This time:
A particular flower shows up in most scenes, and at the end the MMC picks one and gives it to the FMC.
because that works SO well for my topsy turvy romance.
Leaving:
1. Everytime someone says either the name of your antagonist, a random bypasser screams
Bonus points if instead of the name of your antagonist, it's a nonthreatening word, like "cookie"
Extra bonus points if the bypasser screaming gets everyone else screaming
Even more bonus points if no one can remember why the screaming started.
2. A character holds a box/bag through out the entire play and will never tell anyone what's inside it.
Bonus points if the character is completely psychotically protective of the box
Extra bonus points if we never find out what's actually inside the box

I'm so adopting - "Whenever a character tries to tell somebody that he loves her, a car/truck/other loud thing passes and the girl doesn't hear it."
My story is about to get romantic-comedy on me, I fear.
Leaving -
Whenever a character tries to drink something - a cup of tea, a glass of water, a flute of champagne - somebody runs into him/her and causes them to drop their drink.
