Spec Scripts of Any Kind

Whether it's a situational comedy or a one-hour drama, which TV show have you chosen to spec this year?

I've chosen to write a spec script for the one-hour drama series Medium.

Would love to know what everyone else is doing! Or if you're doing more than one spec episode or something since spec scripts don't tend to be 100 pages long.

RE: Spec Scripts of Any Kind

For SF, I'm doing a two-parter to compliment a pilot I wrote and that should come in right around 100 pages, but, when I'm finished with that, I'll probably do Psych. After that, maybe Back at the Barnyard.

I hear Burn Notice would be good to do, but I haven't been able to get myself into that show yet.

I'm keeping my eye on Dollhouse for next year.

RE: Spec Scripts of Any Kind

Oh, yes! I would have LOVED to do Dollhouse this year, but because it's so new and the story arcs are still in development with this first season, I decided not to. I'll definitely consider it next year if/when it gets picked up for a second season! I picked Medium cuz it's the show I feel like I know best since LOST and Heroes seem a bit too complicated for me and I don't really watch situational comedy shows.

What I REALLY wanna do is write a Tru Calling spec, but since the show doesn't exist anymore I'm not sure if I can get away with it or if I should even bother to waste my time with that. I hear novelty specs are big no-no's in the entertainment industry. It's pretty much the ONLY show that I know very well and I feel like I could write a decent spec script about it. Plus, Eliza Dushku is my inspiration! :)

MaeveBran: You like Chuck too? Yay! I finally found someone else who does. *dances*

I'm doing at least one NCIS spec, and possibly two, since my screenplay has more holes in it than swiss cheese. I might save that idea for NaNo. My NCIS spec takes place on April Fools Day, and I'm having an insane amount of fun writing it. ;)

RE: Spec Scripts of Any Kind

I was thinking of writing a spec for Chuck, too! I'm splitting my Screnzy workload up between a few scripts (mostly shorts), so I might end up doing that if I need some more pages. How long are you thinking your Chuck spec will be?

RE: Spec Scripts of Any Kind

Yes. I love Chuck.

I believe it will be around 50 to 54 pages. I haven't seen a Chuck script but that is about the length of a Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis scripts and the people on Chuck talk about as fast as the Stargate people. My big question is do they have five acts and a teaser or four acts and a teaser?
