I'm in over my head.

Like John Constantine tends to stay.

This is my first year with Script Frenzy, my first script, an my first comic/graphic novel.

I'm thinking that I'm just going to fail.

But hey, at the same time I'm feeling pretty darn good about it.

Anyone else feel this way?

RE: I'm in over my head.

Yea the only things I know for a fact is I have never done this and the four titles of my chapters.

RE: I'm in over my head.

I do, too. I'm only a couple of pages in, because for some reason people keep finding things for me to be doing instead of working on this script.

Not that I'm making much progress anyway, since I seem to be stumbling on every plot hole I have and I'm only on page 7 of the story (counting the title page). I really should have spent more time on the MC's characterization.

But, hey. At least I'm becoming more active on those other forums I belong to, asking for help. And descriptions for characters. Background people are a pain!

I'm going to try my best to finish. But it might be tough.

I've made a decision: NaNoWriMo is easier. Script Frenzy is more "by the skin of your teeth."

RE: I'm in over my head.

Yeah. I never tried NaNoWriMo either. November is normally a busy month for me (it's playing catch-up after the horror film festival).

But I'm feeling excited. Started my first actual scripting for my comic today.
Have the plot lines for the first two issues/chapters planned out.

I'm feeling pretty good about the characters.

I'm new on the forum and I haven't exactly got my bearings yet, or I'd be more of a conversationalist, I'm sure ^_^;

RE: I'm in over my head.

Yeah, I feel like we will fail. My partner and I have 5 pages of the graphic novel (with another page to add in between), but we are only on page 2 of the doc. I don't think it is even possible for us to get 100 pages of script. We will see. The page we are adding is the first page with dialog, so I don't know how much that will add per panel.
Perhaps we will finish this one and then split to work on our own scripts when we are done.

RE: I'm in over my head.

I know I'm not going to fail. I write scripts way too fast. (Don't be deceived by my current lack of page count.) However, I'm still feeling overwhelmed. I'm scripting my GN. And my movie. And finishing the '07 NaNo novel they're both based on. And doing character designs and page layouts. And I'm moving to a new home across town. Can I pull all of this off? If I can, I'll consider myself a superman! And then I'll go back to writing a mere 50,000 words and a song or 4 in May...

RE: I'm in over my head.

Maybe it's a cheat, but I think of each "page" of my GN as what the page will be when it's illustrated. So 3.33 pages a day isn't so hard. I can hardly finish a single scene in one page sometimes.

I actually figured I'd be happy if I get 50 pages, but after the first few days, I wonder if I might actually make it to 100. However, I may not be anywhere near the end of my story after 100 pages.

I am more used to writing prose than comics, so it is a real challenge to think in terms of visual layout and strip my dialog down to the bare minimum.

RE: I'm in over my head.

I felt like this since there are so many distractions that I allow to take my attention, but ScriptFrenzy is more of a push to actually do something with the idea I have currently instead of letting all the perfect details rot in my brain. I still have to say I'm on a good start!

RE: I'm in over my head.

First Script Frenzy, first graphic novel....and first time ML.

What can I say...I like a challenge...(or I'm crazy...lol)

It's definately not easy, and it's much slower going than I thought it would be. But I'm still confident I will make the 100 pg mark. 3.33 pgs isn't that much, it's within grasp even if you're like me and haven't written as much as you hoped you would have by now. It's only 4 days in- and the day's not even close to being over.

Don't think that you're going to fail. Push that evil thought away. We all have doubts at some point or other, but keep your head above water, and keep getting every page down that you possibly can. In the end, even if you don't reach Script Frenzy's page goal, you've probably written more than you would have otherwise, and that still makes you a winner. And then you'll be more prepared for next year! : )

RE: I'm in over my head.

In over my head, I had the idea yesterday, I've never scripted before and my average script page is two GN pages.

RE: I'm in over my head.

Not as far as it feels. Yes at times it is daunting but you just have to be consistent. It's better to get at least 1 page down a day than nothing. Believe me, my last script "Doses of Roger" took me 10 days to write. Granted it was a tough 10 but I spent two weeks outlining and writing random notes then I broke the outline into 10 chunks and wrote a chunk a day. The deadline of May 1 is the real blessing of this whole situation, deadlines where made for writers.
