This is exceptionally frustrating. My two main characters, who will soon be wrapped up in a scandalous love affair that will cause their families to murder each other (it's based on Romeo and Juliet, OK?) They say each other for the first time on page 14, and said their first words to each other on page 15. I'm now on page 17, after making them dance together, and they've barely said two words to each other. (That's not quite true, and he talks a lot more than she does.)
Everything was going JUST FINE until they met. My writing has ground to a screeching halt. These two characters need to have such sexual tension between them it's ridiculous, but right now they just sound bored.
Oh well. I'll keep hitting them over the heads with bad dialogue, and hopefully they'll iron themselves out in a few pages when they get their first moments of just the two of them without, like, a hundred other people in the room.
*sigh*
