Page count graph

I adore the page count graph; it gives me a sense of massive achievement every time I see it rise by however many pages and really motivates me to keep going. It was a godsend whilst doing NaNo. :P

However, I really don't like the yellow line on the SF one which shows what page count we're meant to be at on each day. Not only do I find it distracting and ugly, but it doesn't allow your progress from each day to be shown as clearly and I know that people aim for different page counts than the one shown by the yellow line - so for them I imagine it is either discouraging or just plain annoying. I think either you should be able to disable it, have the ability to create your own targets from it rather than the preset ones rising by 3 or 4 pages per day, or it should just go. It really bugs me. :|

RE: Page count graph

This has been mentioned in the tech forum, too, in this post:

RE: Page count graph

Not to be condescending, but I like the yellow line that reminds us to reach our goal. :D

RE: Page count graph

I don't mind the yellow line, because it is helping me know where I am in relation to where I should be.

But I agree that it's not very aesthetic. Different people are motivated by different things. Choice would be nice.

RE: Page count graph

Personally, I like the way it is done on NaNoWriMo's graphs better... red for days you're not at or above the target, green otherwise. But that could just be me.

RE: Page count graph

I honestly don't mind the yellow line. I like comparing where I am to where the minimum each day is to make it to the 100 page goal. It makes me smile.

RE: Page count graph

Got some word from the tech team... the yellow line isn't actually supposed to be there. ;) Unfortunately, removing it is no simply task, but it's on the list for next year's SF, when they'll be able to alter the files necessary for display.

So next year, you can look forward to people complaining about where's the yellow line. :-)

RE: Page count graph

For what it's worth, the whole 100 pages thing is cool to keep motivated, but actually completing a script to me is more imprtant than an arbitrary page count anyway. I'll be SCRIPT FRENZYing long into May to get mine finished. It looks like my screenplay will run just short of 200 pages in the first draft. Then I'll need to cut it down. There won't be any online support since April will be over so for now I'm enjoying the yellow line for now (that looks more like a chain to me).

RE: Page count graph

AV8R_Author: Actually, donations have reached a level that these forums will remain up for the remainder of the year, so you will be able to have some of the online support even after April! You just won't be able to update your page count. Good luck at getting your script completed!
