How do your zombies work?

Out of curiosity, how is everyone featuring zombies making their undead become, well, undead? In my manga, zombies are humans who were bitten and killed my vampires (but not changed), and can be brought back as zombies by the vamp who killed/bit them.

RE: How do your zombies work?

I've been writing the same zombie characters for a few years now and have never addressed their origin stories. I'm pretty sure they were once human and, if pressed, I'd pick the tried and true bitten-on-the-head-by-another-zombie rule. It seems less important to my story than their undead shenanigans though. I like your vamp creator angle.

RE: How do your zombies work?

I don't have zombies... yet. I have a freaky book that will do something, it may be zombies unless I think of something totally more awesome than that.

RE: How do your zombies work?

My zombies were caused by a cancer-fighting virus that mutated horribly. The virus lodges itself in the brain and nervous system of the infected person and basically takes control of them at the cellular level.

The zombies are more like the 28 Days Later "infected" when the virus first takes control of them, but they become more like classic Romero zombies as their bodies deteriorate.

RE: How do your zombies work?

My zombies are the dead leaking up from a rift in Hell, so they're more fantasy zombies than awesome science zombies.
