How to Write a Movie in 21 Days

I just have to say that Viki King's, "How to Write a Movie in 21 Days" has been extremely helpful for me! I saw that it was referenced in, "Save the Cat" and decided to pick it up so that I had some kind of "program" to follow for ScriptFrenzy.

The book really helps keep you on track with various outline type of methods and King sets the page limit bar high, yet do-able every day. She also helps establish the pacing of the structure, acts, etc.

I really liked McKee's, "Story" but found it was very lengthy with a lot of information to weed through. King's book is perfect for finding out what you need to know AS you follow a manageable schedule to beat ScriptFrenzy.

I'm on Page 90...wish me luck-- King recommends a 30 page sprint to 120 on Day 7 (tomorrow). Eeep.

RE: How to Write a Movie in 21 Days

Good luck! =0
I did the most yesterday, rounding it off to a nice 30. (13 pages yesterday, not including the scenes I deleted. I had three scene ones because I couldn't start it right! XD)

I'm writing a musical, so it's a bit different. A lot different, actually. I get stuck on songs and scenes and sometimes think writing it as a movie would be easier. Scene changes suck.

Then again, I don't think I could handle the whole INT DAY-- SHOT 347 part. xD

RE: How to Write a Movie in 21 Days

I'm writing a musical play and it's so hard! It's more like a rock opera so I'm not really worrying about the lyrics rhyming but I have no musical talent at all and the songs are difficult.

RE: How to Write a Movie in 21 Days

I wish I had known I would be jumping into the Frenzy at least a mouth ahead of time. I would have bought the 21 day book and read through all of this and had played around with the process of screenwriting a little bit more. Instead I learned about this the March 31st in the evening so this is a learn as you go. I have an outline in process, a background novel in process, I write a lot of the script or ideas in a tablet before it ever becomes the real thing. I am only on page three! I ordered the book but it may not get here for a week. So I am not expecting to finish by the 30th but I am using this as a catalyst to learn something new. It may end up being a musical as I have always wanted to write one. I am a music major and my professors would probably like to hear that I am working in the business somehow.

Good luck to all of you in your frenziness. :)
