Down with the Fourth Wall!

Anyone else breaking the fourth wall in their script? I just did.

A character told the other he would hide in a garbage can, and he responded saying that only happens in cartoons and bad musicals.

So yeah, anyone else using the fourth wall breakage to supply bad, corny, over-used jokes? xD

RE: Down with the Fourth Wall!

I just added a few lines to a UFO scene where a character comes out in a pair of hideous glasses and smiles at the audience. The other character then says to her, "You're breaking the fourth wall!"

However, I don't think I've ever seen a musical with a character hiding in a garbage can. Sesame Street, on the other hand... XD

RE: Down with the Fourth Wall!

Well, I've more seen it in movies. A character's hiding in the garbage can, then someone takes something really disgusting and throws it in there.

RE: Down with the Fourth Wall!

This isn't really breaking the fourth wall, but it's on the same page as what you asked I suppose. I'm writing a series of sketches and one of them is set in the 17th century (it's a bit of a vampire spoof, pseudo-serious). Into that one, I've written in several deliberate production goofs, such as a plane going over in the background, an extra in the background listening to an iPod, etc. Basically anything which you'd have to be extra diligent making sure WASN'T there, what with the complications associated with a setting of that era, I want it!

I like the way you did it, breaking the fourth wall is such a good way to poke fun at yourself, which I think is such a really good trait for writers to have.
