It's hard to do word wars when everything posts so slowly.

What do you mean by slowly? Are you experiencing site slowdowns?

I'd assume it's the 15 minute site cache. There's no denying that it is annoying, even if it is a mild necessity for NaNo.

I think it's just the 15 minute cache. But in 10 minute word wars, that seems like an eternity. :-)

It shouldn't affect the actual topics themselves; in my experience, the actual pages themselves update promptly... although, I could be wrong.I generally surf away so quickly, or have enough open, that I might not be noticing the time I wait.

But it seems that the post doesn't show on the list and doesn't move the post up the queue and so no one knows about the word-war challenge.

Although I just noticed that if you navigate away from the forum, it will show that there's been a post made on the larger "leader board", but then when you go back to the individual forums, still the thread is not advanced...

Yes, that's part of the site cache. It just requires a little patience, I'm afraid! The best thing is to post at least 15 minutes ahead of time. Please note that the cache is individual... so if someone else visits the forum, they'll see it, even if you can't.
