Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

Page 85 and all my MCs are dead. I'm having a lot of fun. Who else's characters joined the Reaper? Am I completely crazy for doing this? Do I ask to many questions?

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

(grin) The vast majority of my major characters lived to tell the tale, but only because I wanted to use them in later stories (and quite possibly a sequel - Return To Willamette). But as for the NPCs (so to speak) - slaughter!! With a vast amount of different weapons (swords, katanas, battle-axes, pistols, guns, baseball bats, cars, trashcans, chainsaws and - of course - scythes. Because - as I think we can all agree - scythe matters).

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

I'm the opposite- I'm trying to write a story where a lot of people are supposed to be killed, but I don't have the heart to kill any of my main characters.

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

So far only one character has bit the bullet, but I enjoyed doing the deed. It was fun writing the death scene :P

Does that make me a bad person?

You know what? I don't care. Off with their heads! :D

DAEdalus checks data.

DAEdalus says: Negative. None of DAEdalus' characters have permanently malfunctioned.

DAEdalus executes WAVE.EXE.

Goodbye.

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

I have only 14 speaking characters, so I'm trying to keep all the main ones alive until near the very end.
I've only killed off minor thugs so far, and I haven't decided yet what happens to the four top characters: a good man, a good woman, a bad man, and a bad woman. Maybe I'll keep all of them alive for a sequel next year?

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

I haven't killed off anyone in this story, only put someone in a wheelchair... however my last two nanos... 2008 one of the main characters died before the start of the book, trust me it made sense... in 2007... I had a killer trying to kill EVERYBODY in the book... what's funny is I based the killer on the sweetest, nicest, the most anti-mean girl ever!!!! The girl I based the killer on wanted to be the killer which makes more sense within the story also.

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

Much like golden_snidget and mossman, I seem to be writing about the luckiest squad in the history of war. I can't realistically portray death during wartime - firstly, because it makes me feel tremendously guilty, and secondly because I can't keep building up new characters for an audience.

One of my worst habits, however, is forgetting who I have left alive. I experience that problem whenever I start killing characters off, but it became so bad during this month that one of the numerous Post-It notes on my monitor is now a hit list.

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

Doesn't everyone? I actually got excited when I killed off my first character this month, I got some really weird looks. I killed off my MMC at page 50 or something then killed my FMC at the end of my first script and when I was telling everyone they thought I was really weird. All my friends now think I'm sadistic because I always kill people off.

They also got annoyed because I told them I'd write a script based off my group of friends at school, they told me I wasn't allowed to kill them all off so I turned everyone into zombies then I fell/was pushed out a window and died..

But seriously, every writer likes killing off characters, don't they? I believe that if a writer can make you cry, tears in your eyes and sobbing, or they can make you laugh out loud, then they're a good writer :)

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

Me. This screnzy, I killed all my characters except for one unimportant guy. Actually, my characters die in all my writings. I can't stand it when they live.

I've been known to resurrect them, though. xD

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

Most of them have tragic endings, though not all die. Well, actually, they die but their souls get transferred to one of their creations. I had to make a chart to keep up with all the tragicness my characters have to endure.

Jacki - dies and is stuck on an eternal quest to the Garden behind the Moon.

Wyrm - is Jacki's host body, goes on eternal quest.

Jay - has to leave Earth and forever watch over as God, unable to do anything except watch as time passes by.

Zachary - lives the rest of his life alone, with his not-really-his-wife wife, and forever burdened by the guilt that he could have saved his sister from dying if he had acted sooner.

Cassidy - fakes her death and makes a body double of herself to give to Zack so he won't know that she's dead, merges souls with the monster that's been after her blood who is actually her younger sister.

Monster (who remains unnamed) - is forced to merge souls with Cassidy, whom she loathes, for the rest of eternity.

Drake - is forced to serve Monster and Cassidy, loving one of them but not knowing who it is.

Derek - is cut off from the world, never knowing what happened to anyone. Basically has lost all his senses and sanity.

Ilya - dies from a very painful and slow acting poison given to her by her daughter.

Zack and Jack's dad - goes insane with grief and dies from alcohol poisoning.

Donovan and Lily - have to uproot their lives (for the twelfth time) and move somewhere else where Lily dies in a car accident and Donovan is permanently paralyzed from the neck down.

All the students and teachers from Cassidy's school - die.

Tania - dies with the knowledge that her cousin, whom she has secretly lusted for, hates her guts, but he actually doesn't and feels the same way. She doesn't learn that last bit of information.

All other Creators at the tournament - they all either merge souls with their most hated creation or die.

Officers #1 and #2 - they get fired because the case with Cassidy and the Monster was the only one that could have saved their job but Cassidy and the Monster along with the Drake all get zapped into nothingness by aliens (I swear, this part is serious) so they lose their jobs and proceed to starve to death on the streets.

Ahehehehe... *rubs head sheepishly* I didn't even know half these characters existed until I wrote them down myself.

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

My story's over.
Only the bad guys are dead. Well, the really bad guy and the unexpected bad woman at least. A sometimes bad/sometimes OK fellow still lives.
So do my good guy and good woman, but then I might need them for a sequel.

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

Yeah, I kill off some of the needless, and a few of the majors. As I'm doing a series, it's guaranteed that they're gonna cark it at some point. There's only two I can't bare to part with. Well one, truth be told, and one that needs to stay on.

Wonder if the show will still last, though?

RE: Who Else Likes Killing off Characters?

Weirdly, not me... Yes. >:D I have a feeling in these last day(s) of desperation I will unleash my fury! I DO have two characters that are either dead/in jail though-- still haven't decided which it'll be. Of course this might just be cause my cast is too small at the moment for tons of killing. :p

I have nothing witty to say here. Please move along.
