As I complained last year, my computer was unable to make any PDF programs work. My computer is old. Please, return to word count. No special software is needed. And return to June, that way we can avoid computer swine flu and real swine flu as well which is hitting everyone's community including my own.

My script has: 102 pages and 21,562 words

Since microsoft word is a cheap and common word processor, the Script Frenzy computer should be able to read it. Or just go back to word count no special software need on any one's part.

Script Frenzy is a challenge of pages simply because it's a script challenge.

Scripts do not operate by words - they're a page affair - and we want to be traditional and/or professional. People's words vs pages vary greatly - one of the scripts I wrote was 103 pages and 16,000 words - another was 123 pages and 27,000 words. I'm sure others results would be quite different too :)

What I suggest you do is to befriend someone. You can email your script to them, they can make it a pdf, and email it back. Voila. I would be quite happy to do such a thing for you, if you would like?

As for the month, every month is going to be terrible for some and wonderful for others. Next year I would hope we don't have swine flu around and it's not the normal flu season for everyone around the world, currently in Australia it's quite warm. Personally, since June is the end of financial year, it would be terrible for me. It just means so much more when you win it :) You won, so it's a greater achievement :)

The problem with using microsoft word is that it isn't really designed for scripts; it's actually not the best choice (I understand that you use it, and that's cool!) however, most of the scripts we see here are written with software designed for the purpose.

With so many different programs, we can't set up a validator that will read all those different formats. So, we had to choose a universal format, that can do page counts. Page counts are industry standard; you don't write 20,000 word scripts, because formatting is so subjective based on the type of script you're writing that it's not a good measure of script length.

Page counts are awesome! I'm really grateful for it!

Keyboard Warrior, Openoffice.org is a free office suite capable of exporting to PDFs, if that's any help. I know it's a bit late for 2009, but it might be worth noting for next year.
