Dislocating Fingers...

Ok, my character gets in a fistfight and I think I need him to dislocate one of his fingers.
Which finger would be the best to dislocate? I'm thinking the thumb. What are some possible ways this could happen? How hard would it be to snap the finger back into its proper place? I've heard that with shoulder dislocations and the like its possible. Also, how painful would this whole process be?
...My poor character, I feel cruel... *headdesk* And the dislocated finger isn't even the worst of the whole affair.
Any help guys?

RE: Dislocating Fingers...

so my answer will be incredably helpfull (I fear) first how hard- well it's not really the power but the angle I mean if I punshed a guy full force (or even less) and my thumb got caught on somthing then it would easly happen. things it could be caught on might be a staff the other person is useing to defend himself. or the other guy grabs his thumb while he is tossing the puch. pain this depends on the charter. I have a low pain threshold some I know that although I have felt worse then a dislocated finger it would make me lose my train of thought and say lots of swear words. but people who live with pain - either someone who has cronic pain somewhere else or someone who someone who fights alot might barly notic the pain. hope this helps
