So, Kentuckians, how ya doin?

Wednesday and Future Write-Ins

On Wednesday I will be at 3rd St Coffee from 5:30-7:30pm for a write-in. I hope to see many of you there.

For the rest of the month, are there any particular days you are interested in getting out to write and/or complain about your script? I have a relatively flexible schedule, and can try to accomodate you if you have suggestions.

Thanks! I hope your words are going well!

Orson Scott Card on the Internal Editor

At the planning meeting last week I mentioned an online article by Orson Scott Card in which he contradicts the usual writerly advice that one should shut off one's internal editor. I probably gave the false impression that the point was to edit-as-you-write; in fact, it's more about keeping the story's direction on-track. Here's a link to the article on OSC's website:

http://www.hatrack.com/writingclass/lessons/2000-08-02-3.shtml

There are a number of other articles on there, including one on whether a beginning SF/F writer needs an agent.

United States -- Kentucky

Day 2 (almost 3) how's it going?

Word counts doing well? I just reached 6 pages on my script, and things are going really well. I'm about to turn in for the night and dream up plot bits as I slumber.

What are your page counts?

Are the words coming easily? Or do you need a kick in the pants?

Would it really be bad to just start quoting my favorite movies on day 3?

United States -- Kentucky

What are you writing, Kentucky?

Script? Screenplay? TV show? What really gets you going this year?

What are you writing about?

I initially had planned to write a metafiction play about a writer who loses control of her characters, but now I'm not so sure.

So Kentucky, what should I write about?

Come one, come all, let's get this regional forum active!

United States -- Kentucky

Welcome to Script Frenzy, Kentucky! Introductions here!

Renee here, I am the municipal liaison for Lexington, Kentucky. We do not have our own regional forum this year, but if we have a big enough group this year, I bet we could get one.

Is everyone excited? I am. This is going to be a fun April. Want to help publicize the event? Flyers are available for download in the Writer's Resources section. Please feel free to get them out there so we have a great Script Frenzy. For my part, I will be posting them wherever I can as soon as I get more printer ink.

This is my second attempt at Script Frenzy, and hopefully my first win. This year I am working on a stage play instead of a screen play, to see if that happens to move me a bit more. I'll be using the freeware program Celtx to help me with formatting.

Please introduce yourself, whether you are from Lexington or not. I hope to meet many of you over the course of April.

Lexington, March 31st, how shall we celebrate?

In lieu of an official Kickoff party this year, I thought it would be fun to get together for a planning session on March 31st. Does anyone have a preference on where to do this?

My inclination is 3rd St Coffee, as it has good parking, decent coffee, and kick butt sandwiches of all sorts to feed everyone from the vegan to the carnivore, but I am open to suggestions.

Also, please let me know if you plan to attend, so I can present you with your sticker swag!

All right everyone, time to get excited!

Lexington: Kick-Off Party

Hello Kentuckians,

It's looking like the ideal weekend for the kick-off party will be the weekend of March 28-30 (Fri-Sun). I am willing to host this event in my home on any of these days, but I am also willing to go to an alternate location if the desire is leaning that way.

Last year one of our members suggested perhaps securing the big meeting room in the Beaumont Library, would this be of greater interest? We could also use other library locations, of course, as long as it is possible to have food in that particular meeting room.

Or we could go to a restaurant, but past kick-offs held in restaurants have not been very successful, due to the built-in cost of attending.

I am open to any suggestions any of you have.

Your scattered-but-trying ML,

Renee

United States -- Kentucky
