Rocky Horror Picture Show

One the most memorable plays and movies of all time. Ah, back when Tim Curry was skinny and beautiful. Rocky Horror is a fantasy of mine. Lol I've always wanted to be Columbia. Hehe I once had a boyfriend that looked like a younger version of Rocky. Back to the point TRHPS is an institution. A safe house for those out of this world people. What did you think about? What are your fond memories of the madness?

How long is too long for a monologue?

So I just wrote a 2 page monologue.
Yeah.
I mean, it's all good stuff and I'm almost positive that when I go through and edit it, it might actually get longer.
I don't think my monologue is 'too long'. I saw a play a month or so ago that had a 5 page monologue that was really well done, both writing wise and acting wise.

Anyways, I was just thinking about this and wondering what other people thought could be considered as an excessively long monologue. 7 pages? 10? 20?

Joining the playwright

I came into Script Frenzy deciding to write comedic sketches, but I've decided to try my hand at a comedic play too. Screnzy is all about trying new things, right? So why not?

I've realized I have, like, no life experience but I had the perfect setting, it's a whole "write what you know" type setting. A college newspaper office!

This is perfect for me. It's my job (I work for my school's newspaper) and it's people my age. But story, of course, isn't based on anything so it can just be outrageous.

Period Plays

Is anyone else working on a period piece? Where do you find your inspiration for creating the right mood and tone of the piece? How do you check you've got your historical details right? Any and all suggestions would be great.

So far I'm using period music and old movies.

One MC

I'm adapting a short story of mine to a stageplay. There is one main character, and she's alone much of the time.
The story involves a lot of her thoughts and emotions and reactions to the scary world around her (it takes place in the dark and scary Faerie); how can I translate that to the stage? The only thing I can think of is to make her talk to herself a lot.

ways of saying goodbye

In my play I research different ways two people say goodbye in public. How do you say goodbye?
1- to a friend you will not see for a week
2- to a friend you will not see for a year
3- to a friend that doesn´t know you have an affair with her husband
4- to a friend that doesn´t know you will leave with her husband and start a new life in Tokyo
5- or do you just shake hands and say goodbye no matter what?

Directing - does it affect your writing?

I have done some directing myself and often read and write scripts with the eyes of a director (as well as actor). Something I've noticed while writing, especially now that I don't really edit while I write and instead save that process until May, is that I write a LOT of directions. I've often directed my own texts so writing directions didn't really matter - they were basically notes for me so I remember what I pictured at the time of writing. But if I ever wanted to give my script for someone else to direct, I would have to erase most of my directions.

Length of Acts? Scenes?

I know that formatting is pretty flexible. And since this is a first draft, I'm not too worried on getting it 'just right'.
But I'm wondering what could be considered 'right' for how long a scene should be. One page? Six? And an act? Three scenes or five? Or just one really long scene?

I'm sort of focusing one scene on the same location and smoothing characters through it before cutting it off. I think it flows okay for now but it makes me a little nervous, I guess.

What are you guys doing?

Formatting

I daresay I have plenty of issues confronting this issue. How would I format the writing of a stageplay? I would figure something like this:

Bob: hey whats up?

George: nothing much. What about you?

Bob: nothing really. Just got ate by a penguin.

George: thats fun.

But I'm not quite sure if thats how its supposed to be though ^^''

Musicals

Hey! It's my first time doing a scriptfrenzy so I decided I'd do something cool for my first time.
I had this idea of a musical but in the play I'm using contemporary songs. Does anyone really know how to format it? Do you write the lyrics into the script?
