The Beat
Hi, Scriptwriters!
Script Frenzy is just over two months away, and it’s never too early to start planning. The next big one-hour drama, monster movie, musical, or edgy graphic novel might be brewing in your mind right now. Since the Frenzy will be here faster than you know it, now is the perfect time to conjure up the script you’re going to tackle in April.

Hello, Soon-to-Be-Frenzied Scribes!
It’s January, the start of a brand-new year for the Office of Letters and Light and Script Frenzy. When Chris Baty announced that he was stepping down as Executive Director to pursue writing full-time, our organization faced the challenging task of finding a stellar candidate to fill the position. We searched high and low, and I’m thrilled to report that we found the perfect person!
On January 9, Grant Faulkner will start as Executive Director here at the Office of Letters and Light.
Grant joins us from the National Writing Project, a nonprofit that collaborates with teachers to improve writing in schools. He served on OLL’s board of directors in 2011, and his contributions have already helped us grow and develop the organization. He is an avid scriptwriter, and he is also known for his online literary journal, 100 Word Story.
Hello Fellow Scriptwriters,
I’m dusting off my desk here at Script Frenzy headquarters and gearing up for an action-packed scriptwriting season. We need your help to make this our best Script Frenzy ever! Share your ideas for tools or tricks you'd like to see added to the website and any scriptwriting questions you'd like our 2012 Cameo writers to tackle in the forum. We'd love to hear from you!
I’ve had a busy six months teaching scriptwriting, producing, and directing classes at a local film school in Berkeley, attending a stellar filmmaking lab in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and soaking up the rays while working on my project in Los Angeles. Honestly, though, there’s no place like Frenzyland, and it’s good to be back.
Grinning from ear to ear,
Sandra
Program Director
Hark! The sun is rising over Frenzyland.
I'm Tim Kim, OLL's new office capitan -- I'll be greasing the wheels for Script Frenzy as we get to looking towards April, looming there on the horizon.
Did you write a novel this November? Is it shouting to be adapted into a screenplay? Perfect!
Is there a morose and prone to monologue Danish prince waiting for you to write him into a play? Do that (though a nod to Shakespeare might be warranted).
Is there a young team of superheroes waiting in the wings, ready to fight crime, hormones, and acne? Start thinking up aliases.
Hello Frenziers!
You’ve probably heard the news that founder and Executive Director of the Office of Letters and Light, Chris Baty, is stepping down to set sail on a new adventure in January of 2012.
We’re on the hunt for an Executive Director to oversee our bustling headquarters.
Please take a look at the job posting and pass it along to anyone you feel fits the description and is interested in working with a loyal bunch of quirky scribes.
Appreciating your help,
Sandra
Hello, Frenziers!
August already! Where does the time go? For those of you who don't know me, my name is Sarah Mackey. I'm the new Community Liaison for the Office of Letters and Light. That means you'll be seeing me here in the Beat, on the Script Frenzy Facebook page, and tweeting from the Script Frenzy Twitter. That's a whole lot of me. Anyone allergic to Canadians, consider this fair warning.
Although I'm new at the Community Liaison game, I've been around the OLL universe for quite some time, as a participant, Municipal Liaison, intern, and Special Projects Manager. Some of you may recall my Romeo and Juliet-inspired dinosaur musical for this year's Script Frenzy. ("Tiny Arms," a T-rex's lament, is perhaps its most memorable number.)
Hi Frenziers,
I’m closing out my last week here at Script Frenzy headquarters and shifting into “off-season” mode. I’m going to miss taking my Script Frenzy mug to the bakery next door and buying my daily soy latte. I’m also going to miss Formal Fridays, Friday Pie Day, Blobby, the office mascot, and also the amazing people here at the office. They are all gearing up for our first-ever Camp NaNoWriMo this summer, so be sure to check out the NaNoWriMo website for more information. It’s going to be fantastic!
On another note, I talked to the folks at The Writers Store and they love Script Frenzy participants so much, they decided to give all participants a gift. For a limited time only, they are offering a free digital copy of their Pocket Screenwriting Guide eBook edition. This offer expires on June 6, 2011, so act now! You can learn more about this by visiting our Special Offers from Sponsors page. We heart all of you at The Writers Store. Thank you for being so awesome!
Hi Frenziers!
Our Municipal Liaisons do an amazing job extending Script Frenzy to writing communities around the world. A large amount of the frenzied experience couldn’t take place without our team of superhero volunteers. They do the spectacular task of cheering us on, organizing parties, write-ins, and distributing regional email updates about Script Frenzy happenings.
They deserve an International ML Appreciation Day parade complete with gold star-shaped floats, cotton candy, kettle corn, confetti, and marching bands. Since it’d be hard to pick the place to host the parade, and it’d also be tough to gather all 19,221 writers to line the streets, I thought I’d say “Thank you so much for going the extra mile and doing an outstanding job! We love you so very much!”
