An Excerpt from Eight Festivals
ext. A street in cardiff - night It is raining and the street is empty as LUDO walks down it. He stops on the corner and glances up at a broken sign hanging from the building there. ludo (voice over) I was once told that enlightenment begins with complete knowledge of the self, but then, it's true what they say - ignorance is bliss. Glancing around, Ludo pushes gently at the door to the building with the broken sign and enters. int. an abandoned pub, cardiff - night Ludo walks over to the bar, pauses, then wanders along, trailing his fingers along it. LUDO (voice over) You see, when a person is clever, and knows that they're clever, they get cocky, arrogant, and they make mistakes. And when a person is powerful and they know they're powerful, they can't see their strength is their weakness, and they're all the weaker for it. Ludo stops as the bar passes around the corner, and stares over it at the shelves beyond. There a dusty picture frame is visible with a battered black and white photograph in it. Reaching towards it, Ludo catches the picture frame as it flies off the shelf. He stares at the photograph. LUDO (voice over) But in order to have complete knowledge of the self, first you have to know who that is. Some people are lucky; some people don't have to go very far at all to find themselves. Other people are luckier; other people have to go a long way. Ludo removes the photograph from the frame and tucks it into a hidden pocket in his thick, leather jacket. Leaving the frame on the bar, he turns and leaves the pub. EXT. A STREET IN CARDIFF - NIGHT Ludo pauses again in the doorway of the pub. LUDO (voice over) In fact, some people go such a long way, they end up right back where they started... He smiles, staring up at the sign, then, murmuring something, waves a hand at it, repairing it, revealing the name of the pub as Y Lleuad Du [The Black Moon]. ludo (voice over) ...and find themselves waiting there.
