INT. TO EXT. BACK ROOM WORKSHOP OF VAN WOERT’S RENTED HOUSE – MOVING TO FENCE NEAR DIP - LATE EVENING.

ISAAC is working in his workshop which overlooks the back fence where the dip in the wire is seen clearly. It is around sunset. He is making a bird feeder. MARTHA appears standing right next to him. He is startled momentarily.

MARTHA
I wanted to tell James something but I could not, I could not.

ISAAC
What did you want to tell him? I will tell him for you.

MARTHA (regarding ISAAC cautiously.)
Oh, he did an awful thing to me.

ISAAC
Who did?

MARTHA (Anguished)
The man they would not let me have.

ISAAC
What did he do?

MARTHA (Moaning)
OH! He gave me a great deal of trouble in my mind. Oh, they kilt me! They kilt me!

ISAAC reaches out to the woman before him. There is anguish on her face. He is feeling compassion for this dead woman and her plight. As he moves toward her she is moving away from him staying at an equal distance and repeating the line:

MARTHA
Oh, They kilt me! They Kilt me!

The door opens behind her and the two of them are outside in the backyard. The sun has set and the sky is a bright orange.

MARTHA
Oh! I don’t . . . Oh, I don’t . . .

Close up of MARTHA, she is frothing at the mouth. ISAAC is frightened and looks away from her. He looks back up thinking she will be gone. She is standing before him still.

MARTHA
Oh! They kilt me!

ISAAC (Compassionately)
Who killed you?

MARTHA
I will show you.

MARTHA moves away toward the fence. ISAAC follows her and sees two men standing next to the dip in the fence. One of them is sitting on the dip in the wire. He rises as they come nearer. ISAAC recognizes the two men, they are JAMES AND McGEE the doctor. They look dejected, cast down.

FX: The two men begin to melt starting at the feet and moving upward. They sink down into a puddle that looks like melted lead. When they are completely melted there is a blue blaze covering the whole puddle about two inches thick and burning over the entire surface of the melted mass. The puddle begins to bubble up like a lime slacking.

ISAAC is sickened by this vision and turns toward MARTHA, but she is gone. He turns back to the burning vision but it too is gone and the backyard is normal again. ISAAC reacts very strongly to these visions. He walks back to the house.
