INT. KIA CORRIDOR – DAY
LYN is on a step ladder, half inside an access panel. Sparks are falling out past her. Tinny MUSIC can be heard from a personal player attached to her BELT. One of her FEET is tapping in time to the beat.
TIEL is coming out of the BRIDGE. She and YARLEY almost collide when she ENTERS.
TIEL:
Oh. The parts are here.
YARLEY:
Again I’m forced to ask; why? The ship flies right, what’s the problem?
TIEL:
Barely. Barely flies.
YARLEY:
It’s a ship and it flies, what do I care if it does it pretty?
TIEL:
‘Pretty’ isn’t what I’m aiming for. ‘non-fatally’ was my benchmark.
YARLEY:
[Scoffing]
Well aren’t we picky?
TIEL gives her a COLD and UNAMUSED look. They STARE each other down.
YARLEY:
[At length]
What is CAIN doing?
TIEL shrugs.
TIEL:
How should I know? Cleaning his guns somewhere, I suppose, he brought enough of them.
YARLEY:
Guns?
TIEL:
Yes. [She turns to go back onto the BRIDGE] Just think of it this way; if this whole BOUNTY HUNTER thing doesn’t work out you can always open a small arms business.
She EXITS.
YARLEY:
[Scowling]
I do not like her.
She KICKS a wheel of WIRE in frustration and EXITS to the BRIDGE. The WHEEL hit’s the precariously perched LADDER and knocks it down. LYN YELLS, and drops out of the PANEL, gripping the edge for dear life. She is hanging a good FIVE FEET from the floor.
She looks up and down the DESERTED CORRIDOR.
LYN:
Um... little help?
She loses her grip and DROPS out of SHOT with a YELP. There is a pause.
LYN:
[Pathetically]
...Ow.
INT. KIA BRIDGE – DAY
The BRIDGE is quite large and split into two layers. To the left of the doorway are two floor to ceiling weapons lockers. To the right is a set of weapons controls (including RADAR and TARGETTING SCREEN) and chair.
Beyond that is a ladder leading down to two identical sets of FLIGHT CONTROLS. To the right is the PRIMARY CONTROL and the left is the secondary or CO-PILOTS CONTROLS.
TIEL is on her back on the floor beneath the CO-PILOTS CONTROLS. She is holding a FLASHLIGHT in her mouth and using the WRENCH to remove an access panel.
YARLEY ENTERS. She descends the ladder and takes a seat in the PILOTS CHAIR, her attention on the CONTROLS in front of her. Her FINGERS skip across the TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY. A list, written in alien symbols, appears and she begins SKIMMING IT.
TIEL pulls the PANEL away and puts her arms up to the elbow inside the CONTROLS. She turns her head to GLARE at YARLEY who cannot see her.
TIEL:
You know I don’t get you.
YARLEY:
Huh?
TIEL:
You seem smart enough, and you somehow got the money to buy this... thing. Why does a girl like you turn to Bounty Hunting?
YARLEY:
[Sarcastically]
The glamour.
TIEL:
[Snorts]
Hauling in bail jumpers and picking up junkies and cut price whores isn’t exactly most people’s idea of career heaven.
YARLEY:
Well what about you? You’re here.
TIEL:
I’m in it for the money.
YARLEY:
[Laughing]
Aren’t we all?
TIEL slides out and SITS up.
TIEL:
This life isn’t a joke. People die out here. You’re a Ground Bounder; every little thing about you screams it. What do you want in the vacuum?
YARLEY:
[Seriously]
Distance.
TIEL:
Aye. There’s a lot of that out here.
