An Excerpt from Star Trek: Bylina
My name is Nechayev, Alynna Nechayev, and in six days I retire from Starfleet. As the end of my 65 years of service approaches, I find myself looking back over the people I have known: the villains, the victims, the heroes. In Russia such knights errant are known as the Bogatyr and we have epic poems that tell of their deeds called Bylina.
I could not string poetry together to save my life, and I know of no one who has thought of themselves as a hero. However I have known many who have done extraordinary things, made unthinkable sacrifices and left our lives better by their acts. I owe it to them and to the generations of Starfleet yet to come to pass on their story. This is their Bylina.
