ASHIYASHA
(Voice Over)
I am dangerous.
AshiYasha looks up at the sky. Raindrops scatter on her face
as she closes her eyes.
ASHIYASHA
(Voice Over)
I can never get too close to
anyone- I shouldn’t get to close to
anyone.
Lightning flashes, and AshiYasha’s eyes snap open. Thunder
rolls as another flash lights up the walk. Once again
thunder rolls.
ASHIYASHA
(quietly)
Why don’t you come out.
Suto steps out from behind a bush. He is dressed in black
street clothes, with a large black overcoat. It is tattered
along the edges of the sleeves and hem; the wind blows the
pieces like streamers as tree limbs and thunder crash.
Lightning strikes again, lighting up his arm as he points a
gun towards AshiYasha.
SUTO
So, you’re as talented as they say.
AshiYasha stands silently, completely still except for her
eyes, which narrow into a hint of the death glare from the
meadow.
SUTO
When did you notice I was following
you?
ASHIYASHA
At dinner.
SUTO
Which was when I found you. So all
my sneaking around accomplished no
purpose. You could have told me
sooner.
The wind is picking up; AshiYasha’s hair whips around her
face. She begins to pull it into a ponytail.
SUTO
You’re awfully calm for someone who
has been confronted by their
stalker.
AshiYasha stays silent while she secures her hair with a
elastic from her wrist, then turns her attention back to
Suto.
ASHIYASHA
Being hysterical serves no purpose.
SUTO
Ah. So the little girl is logical.
A branch blows down the road behind Beth’s car. Ash’s eyes
narrow into the death glare, then relax.
SUTO
It’s too bad I’m going to-
AshiYasha turns to the door. Her hand touches the handle as
Suto shouts.
SUTO
(shouting)
Don’t move!
AshiYasha freezes, her hand still on the handle.
SUTO
You’d try to walk away from me?! My
job is to kill you, girl, and
that’s what I plan to do. Aren’t
you scared of guns?
ASHIYASHA
(calmly, quietly)
You have no gun.
SUTO
What??
The wind howls past again. Suto looks down at the gun, and
to his amazement, it splits in two at the mechanism along a
clean diagonal line, along with half his trigger finger. It
takes a moment for the pain to register, and in that moment,
he looks up at the door, but it is clicking shut- AshiYasha
has left him outside. He finally feels the pain as Kuroi, in
cat form, watches him from Ash’s roof. He falls to his
knees, giving a shout of pain, but it cannot be heard- a
peal of thunder covers the sound.
ASHIYASHA
(Voice Over)
I might put them in danger.
