An Excerpt from The Dark Moor

Plot Summary to this point: CYRUS (the main character and hero) as been pulled into a Fortune Teller's (ATRUM) tent at at carnival. He is having a Tarot reading performed. ATRUM has just reached the final card.

EXCERPT (starting at PAGE 12):
Frame 2: The next two cards are not touched, Atrum returning his hand to his side. He appears wary of these two cards.
ATRUM
The Devil in the Tower.
Frame 3: Atrum once again turns his attention from the cards, where it had been directed as he described the cards meanings.
ATRUM
That is not a good thing. An evil force calls to you. Always remember what you fight for or it will succeed.
Frame 4: Cyrus nods, slightly put off by this. There Is no fight that he is in, but the suggestion that he is under some sort of evil influence has him greatly disturbed.
Frame 5: Atrum returns his attention to the cards, placing his hand back on the table as he looks down at them. He gestures with the same hand as before. The candles illuminate his face from below as he leans forward for a better perspective.
ATRUM
The Wheel of Fortune reminds you of how quickly things change. That is the magic of life.
Frame 6: This explanation is clearly unsatisfactory to Cyrus, who blinks some unhappily. Atrum continues.
ATRUM
You rule your own life, the stars merely guide it. Always be aware of your choices.
PAGE 13
Frame 1: Atrum places a finger on the Hanged Man, the gem once again glistening with darkness. His other hand rests beside the Emperor.
ATRUM
Do not make poor choices. You will regret it. The ruler of your fate is unkind.
Frame 2: Atrum places his hand on the final, face down card. Silver symbols can be seen running along its back in neat lines.
ATRUM
This card is most relevant to the present.
Frame 3: Cyrus frowns, wondering at what the point of the other cards had been then. In what way did they move through time?
Frame 4: Atrum reveals it to be Death. It depicts a tall figure in black robes similar to Atrum’s. He swings a scythe downwards at a kneeling man, who seems to be begging. The Roman numerals XIII appear in script below the picture.
PAGE 14
Frame 1: Cyrus seems clearly frightened by this revelation. His eyes are wide. In essence he is horror stricken.
ATRUM
Death.
Frame 2: Atrum removes his hands from the table as he watches Cyrus.
ATRUM
You will leave this world for a new one. You will change.
Frame 3: Atrum stands, indicating he is finished. Taking the cue Cyrus does the same continuing to look down at the card in shock. As they stand one of the chairs squeaks (SFX: EEeeeK).
Frame 4: Atrum raises a hand in a farewell gesture; this reading was clearly meant for some greater purpose besides profit.
ATRUM
Farewell and remember…
Frame 5: Cyrus has already turned and is leaving in a rush, eager to get out. The card has panicked him.
ATRUM
The world of dreams is always closer than it appears.
