KEAH (Cutting him off)
I know all that, I read the letter you sent. But why? For nearly twenty eight years not one single person has given a damn about me, or any of my kind, so why now? Why you?

KENTON leans back, chewing on his pen and considering whether or not to open up to her. He leans forward, resting his elbows on the table.

KENTON Ok, I'll be honest with you. Will you be honest with me?

KEAH That depends what you ask.

KENTON Ok. So, here's the deal. I tell you the truth about why I'm writing this, and you get the right to 'no comment' any questions you don't want to answer. Fair? But if you answer a question, it has to be the truth. Deal?

KEAH Deal. So tell me.

KENTON When I was 12 my Mother got pregnant again. I was going to have a little sister. But she tested positive, so they aborted her. The abortion was a mess, I almost lost my Mother that day. They had no choice but to perform a hysterectomy. So I never got a sister. Or a brother.

KEAH So, because you didn't have anyone to play hide-and-seek with, you suddenly want to put the world to rights? This book won't change anything.

KENTON Is that what you believe?

KEAH You really think that one nosey journalist can write one silly little book and the Government will suddenly realise that they were wrong?

KENTON No.

KEAH Then how is it going to change the world?

KENTON Who's told your story before? Who's given the Abandoned Generation a voice? Anyone from that generation who lives in society does everything they can to hide their past. They live under new names with pasts they've made up. They're not even allowed to stand in elections, they can't even vote. This is the first time any stories will be told. The first time anyone will know what really happened. Believe me, Keah, this book will change the world. Because the first step to changing the world is changing people's minds.
